Navigation Pro (New nav)

Is this on the 2013 models? Or will there be something MORE in MY2014?

IIRC, according to earlier forum posts, new nav should show up in 2014 models

BMWNA chose to keep the old CIC Nav for F30 cars MY13. New Nav (NBT) will appear for MY14.

Activehybrid 3 for MY13 has new Nav (NBT).

What exactly is the difference between the CIC nav and the new NBT nav? Is it only new software?
I am considering a new F30 within the next 2 months. Is there a hardware change, or is this something the dealer can make a software change on for my13 cars?

If I was buying close to MY14 I would wait. However, if you need a car sooner CIC is still just fine. The BIG noticeable difference is the speed of accessing menu's, functions, etc. Overall, feature-wise not much has changed (yet).

Thanks guys! The lease will be up on my current vehicle soon, so I think waiting for a 2014 will be out of the question. Hoping to order a 13 to be here by June.
When I was searching about the new NBT I was getting a little confused because I am unfamiliar with BMWs and the CIC nav, so I didn't know what features the current nav has and what the NBT added. Does the CIC still have traffic info? 3-d maps? It really seems stupid to me if BMW waited for the my14 to put this new nav in the 3er if they are already in production in the AH3 and ROW, especially given the google maps Audi is using in their cars and the fact that the 3er is relatively new...
But again, does it look like there will be a software update for 13s?

Traffic info - yes on CIC Nav, but NBT is better, faster, newer traffic. See http://www.inrix.com/pressrelease.asp?ID=158

3D maps/buildings - not really the same as what NBT has.

Software update - no, CIC is not expected to get any additional features like the NBT has. What you see with CIC is what you're getting.

Features are nearly identical. NBT has improved traffic. Overall performance of NBT is much improved. 3D maps are also improved. However, do you really care and how often will you sit there staring at the LCD while driving?

If you need a car, buy when you need it. Its a car, not a $45K Nav system on wheels. Nav is a supplement and CIC will do the job. NBT is better, faster and the traffic is better. Do you want to walk of find alternate transportation while you wait for the MY14 so you can get this?

Why did BMWNA wait? Beats me, but I bet its mostly because they wanted something compelling for the MY14 sell sheet. The marketing geniuses won out.

Is the nav pro really worth it? Considering the wait but really want a BMW! I drive 25-30k per year and use nav all the time for finding work appointments.

If you use the Nav functionality all the time then I'd say you'll appreciate the speed improvements of the new NBT. If you want to check it out visit a local dealer and try a MY13 AH3 or F10. Both have NBT.

I don't see the wagon on bmwusa.com? Do you?

If your dealer received order sheets it could be for their first allocation which are typically demo cars. I haven't heard of the Wagon being available in US before 7/13 production. Could be. Regardless the wagon in US will be MY14.

Doesn't the F30 now come with upgraded hardware now at least?

The list of hardware upgrades (vs. the current) which will power these upgrades include:
Intel processor 1.3Ghz vs Renesas 600Mhz
1GB RAM (vs 512Mb)
8GB flash (vs 512Mb)
Nvidia graphics (vs Fujitsu)
200GB hard drive (vs 80Gb)

There is no touchscreen Nav. There will be a touch iDrive controller knob, but that will be on the new X5 or 4er.

Only new hardware/Nav on F30s made after Nov 2012, but NOT US or Canada models.

It's not just Nav functionality that is sped up, but all interactions with the iDrive.

Are you sure? The latest documents indicate that there is a "technology update" in July. My guess is that the F31 that arrive before that use CIC whereas the ones from July onwards have the new updated nav.

Why would they have the wagon orderable prior to july and then two months later switch the CIC?
