I am currently at 105K.

The oil pan gasket is starting to get a bit oily by the catalytic converter but does not leak any noticeable amount.

The engine makes some clacking noise in the top end on cold mornings but stops after a minute or 2 of idling. I think this is due to the heavier oil I used last oil change.

Other than that things seem to be working pretty good or wearing down at acceptable rates. The rotors are now warped and I think they are original as well as the pads, but this is based on I do not see anything in the dealer records I have printed off.

It is at 190K right now but it was not taken care of too well before me. The bore was a whole mm oversized from wear and it still ran and drive! I had to do a manual swap sine the auto was trashed. Currently I am in the middle of doing 3 things to it. Either a basic engine rebuild, or a turbo rebuild with an M54 crank and rods, or a 6.0L LS with a T56. It is going to be a full restoration. This is all on top of a $500 Cherokee I do need to depend on when the F30 needs work or it's snowing and an LS race buggy I am making in my garage. Too many projects and no money really makes things interesting.

Funny you said that... I was wondering how one could tell while they are on the car? Must be a feeling in the pedal that people are referring to...

Just 2 days ago I found an issue with my valvetronic servomotor. I have to either replace my Valvetronic Eccentric Shaft Actuator or the entire Shaft.

my car is 2013 F30 335i about 61,xxx miles
I was told that it could happen to cars that are both low and high in mileage.

First I thought it was the charge pipe, but there was no way since mine was already upgraded from stock.

performance mods:
ECU tune
Fmic
Chargepipe
catless dp
res delete
modded oem exhaust

How do you know if your car has the same issue?
-Loud short buzz noise under the hood, when waking the car up/unlocking the car
-Unable to rev past a certain rpm, in my case 4k (it sounds like launch control)
-Unable to do pulls. It kind of feels like limp mode, but its not. When you try giving gas it just makes the same launch control type noise once it reaches 4k rpm.

Before this even happened, car ran perfect and smooth without any issues.

My 12’ f30 has 69K on it. Purchased it used. Only thing that has been replaced (according to Carfax) was the distributor cap. No problems so far but I think I’m about to sell it because not only has my Powertrain warranty expired, now the timing chain warranty is about to expire too. I feel the chain is a ticking bomb at this point. Might throw an extended warranty on it, but I’ve been wanting a newer model anyway.

Amazing. I didn't even know that N55 engines had distributor caps.

The buzzing noise under the hood was my boost selenoid that I replaced

At 27k had to replace thermostat and the front shocks. All under warranty but those two items failing on a three year old car was a head scratcher...

Car also rejected Dinan Shockware and had to be reflashed back to factory standard

Bought 2014 328xi last Aug with 55k and out of warranty.
Have put 15k more in last 7 months and reached 70k today.

Only issue is horn /steering module threw an error code a month ago and does not work. Solve it by turning the steering to a particular angle to make it work. Paddle shifters have a mind of their own. Not really worried with the shifters.

Cruise control malfunction issue occurs infrequently and is solved by turning steering to a particular angle which produces a slight feedback and issue disappears..

Had check engine light come up in freezing NY Jan weather for a couple of times , but went away after restarting the car.

Rest is great so far.

Regular oil change every 7-8k , changed plugs , flushed brake oil , changed cabin filter @63k and regular maintenance work.

Loving it so far. Due for a service tomorrow morning. Just regular oil change, tire rotations and general inspection.

As I didnt get any aftermarket warranty am always checking threads to see any common problems and how to identify them earlier.

Now I am planning to do a brake fluid flush and coolant flush.

Good to hear- which bushings threes like a million of them in these cars?
2013 328i at 79000 miles - out of CPO warranty.
- replaced the whole turbo for $1100+
- remote key both needs battery replaced

So far that's it and it's been running great.

2014 328d M-sport package RWD. Just hit 100k miles. Bought it as a CPO with 20k. Had an issue with the driver door lock getting hung in the lock position and the A/C froze on a long trip because the fan was on low and and temp was set low also. Read both issues had a TSB already from BMW by the time it happened to me and never had an issue since. Still have 25k miles left till my CPO warranty is over and even though the dealers ask me to upgrade I plan on keeping this car for a while longer. I'm really hard on it and do autocross, yet to have a major hiccup with it with the exception of a sensor on the rear diff going bad which was because I went off the track and through the cones.

My SA said that they replace the filter housing gaskets all the time. That was a common problem on E46s too,but only after around 100k miles. My SA couldn't explain why, but guessed it was due to the higher oil temps in FI BMWs.

I have no idea what the check valve is for. Oil cooler? VANOS? I'm glad that I caught these oil leaks on warranty, but dissapointed that they presented themselves at such low mileage.

Replaced Charge Pipe. Had to stop competing in autocross and limp to Dealer. May be related to increased boost from Dinan Stage 2. However, replaced under warranty by Dealer.

Replaced Water Inlet O-Ring. This is the for the pipe that runs from the water pump to the engine block. It was a "class 1" leak in that there wasn't any visible water, but the surrounding area was green from coolant. Last warranty item; it's all on me now....

Replaced Xenon head light

Replaced upper coolant line (between expansion tank and upper hose connector). This line is only about 1/4" and made of plastic and metal. It cracked where the plastic met the metal. BMW coolant parts usually have the decency to last to at least 60k miles, but this failed at 48k miles. I guess this part was an over achiever. I was able to drive it home by cleaning coolant off the line and then wrapping it up with electrical tape.

My engine compartment has been burning oil recently, so I suspect that I'm about to do a valve cover gasket.

History:

(Under Warranty)
(Replaced by 1st Owner)
-Steering Wheel Replaced: 10,857
-Steering Wheel and Horns Replaced: 15,238
-Ignition Coils and Spark Plugs Replaced: 21,120
-Transmission Replaced: 25,461
(Replaced by Me)
-Oil Leaks: Filter Housing Gasket, Oil Check Valve: 36,660
-Charge Pipe Replaced 37,881
-Water Inlet O-Ring replaced 41,197

(Not under Warranty)
-Xenon Headlight (left) Replaced: 44,690
-Upper Coolant Line Plastic Cracked (thin line between upper hose connector and expansion tank): 47,908
Keeping this thread alive. My E46 didn't have as many part failures as my F30 at this point. I'm having to work on my F30 with 48k miles as much as my E46 at 120k miles.

14 320i. 91,000 miles. No issues other than replacing a right front steering knuckle after I hit a curb turning in to a parking lot.

I just rotate the tires every 5k miles and change the oil when the car tells me to!

2013 328i X-drive, N26 engine, timing chain, guides, and VANOS system need replacing, but at 89000 miles so of course it is out of BMW extended warranty for timing chain issue.
