Turn signal questions

1. Is there anyway to turn off the blinker lights on the side view mirrors for the turn signal? I find this very distracting.

2. Is there anyway for the turn signal to disengage automatically after X number of blinks for quick lane changes? I had this on my 07 328, can't believe my 335 doesn't have it. I have to manually shut it off every time?

Don't press the turn signal stalk all the way--just 1/2 way, and it will blink 3 times. If this isn't working, check your iDrive settings--it could be disabled.

As for the turn signal mirror--I don't ever remember an iDrive setting for that--it's a safety feature.

You'll find getting run into by a car in your blind spot who can't see your tail lights even more distracting.

This. I've avoided many a collision because the driver wasn't checking their blindspot and suddenly decided to switch lanes.

Huh? Are we talking about the same thing?

I didn't disable the mirror turn signal just saying can be done.

I find it distracting too. On the F10 5 series, even though the signal repeater is in the same spot on the mirror, they designed it so you can't see it at all from the driver's seat. I don't know why it's not the same on all BMWs. You can't turn it off, better safe than sorry though.

I like seeing it--to each his own, I guess.

Small piece of electric tape would do the trick. You could even put a small hole in it to limit the size of the flash.

Tape it and code it...

I have it coded for only 1 blink, because thats how fast i change lanes...

Set your mirrors right and you will eliminate most of the blind spot... Thats how you can prolong your turn signal bulb life...

Wow, that's putting a lot on other drivers. One blink = one finger, guess which one.

I agree and if I didn't go back and forth between the two cars and was able to get used to it as a constant, it wouldn't bother me at all.

I use my turn signals religiously, and the way you're supposed to - AFTER I've looked to make sure it's clear THEN I put the directional on to let people know I've looked, seen it's clear and I am coming over (not looking for "permission" to be let in), so when I see the light, it makes me think there's a car I didn't see.

It's not a big deal though, for now though I prefer the 5 where it's there but I can't see it. That may change with some miles on my 4.

Good job being a dick. Way to embrace the Douchebag BMW Owner stereotype.

You signal in a BMW? You are doing it wrong!

Seriously though, I had a Golf where it was a bit distracting, I just cut some little squares with electrical tape and covered most of the light. Problems solved. There are also these sticker sets on Amazon called dim-its that are handy for lights that are too bright. I used them on my radar detector power cord and the lock button in my Porsches that is ill designed to reflect off the windsheild at night. I think I am used to it now as I don't find it distracting on my wagon.

B.

Yeah, the ole 1 blink. The guy who hit me thought he looked good enough for his quick lane change and 1 blink wasn't enough for me to do anything. 3 would have given me time to stop. He fared worse
