It's ok for people to hate us BMW drivers. Stereotypes are every where. Ask me how I feel about Prius drivers. Nothing can make my perception change about how terrible the drivers are behind the wheel of a Prius. They drive slow as sh*t and love to block the left lane on freeways here in the sf Bay Area. I guess they feel entitled because they are saving the environment so they can drive as slow as they want while being gas efficient as well. I know it's not all of them but a huge percentage do and there are everywhere around here. This makes for a stressful slow as molasses commute which gets annoying/ rant

I say Hundai/Kia are the worst. If I see an idiotic move it's 90% chance H/K. When you buy a car based on color(like a refrigerator) the chance is good you're unaware on the road. Subaru is next in my opinion. Hoodie, flat bill hat, and cigarette are trademarks of the subie douche.

Lifted P/U truck drivers down here and Toyota Corolla S. I have never seen a Toyota Corolla S driver operating at or anywhere near the speed limit. They tailgate like mad and cut in and out of traffic as if they are insane.

MkaSs,
Appreciate your willingness to raise this concern for fellow BMW enthusiasts. However, let me assure you BMW does not have a monopoly on bad drivers. As a matter of fact, I've personally experienced aggressive and discourteous driving from just about every other vehicle brand out there. Which brings me to the point, it's not the car but the driver that demonstrates the driving etiquette.

Aggressive and competitive driving is better left on the track. When it comes to sharing public roads, common courtesy and mindfulness of others should take precedence.

I find this interesting, because I recently bought a Z4M Roadster. Yeah, it's very sporty and aggressive looking with that long hood. It roars with the muffler and intake. And I was shocked when people started honking the horn at me, giving me the finger, etc. I mean, we're in NC, and in the South, people don't generally act that way. I guess you folks from NJ are used to that kind of beahvior. (just kidding -- maybe)

Then, I thought about the Euro tag I had on the front of my car. We had a German exchange student from Gotha, Germany. Gotha is our Sister City. So, to commemorate the event, I had a custom Euro tag made with the German code for Gotha - GTH and added Sister City - SC and the year of our exchange student 2015. So my tag read:
GTH SC 15.

I live about a mile from the South Carolina line, and there are plenty of sports fans that are rivals with the Univ of SC, and I don't think anyone seeing my tag would see Gotha Sister City 15. They only saw Go To Hell South Carolina '15.

So, I swapped it out for M E85 S54, and since then, the world is a much friendlier place.

In my neck of the woods there are two flavors of Prius driver; the dawdler you describe, although around here they tend to stay to the right, and the leadfoot. I see a *lot* of Prii blasting down the left lane at extralegal speeds. Seems incongruous but there it is.

My favorite thing about Prius drivers? How absolutely self righteous and STUPID they are. That piece of crap is worse for the environment than almost anything else on the market. They mine the nickel for the batteries in Canada in a horribly destructive process. After leaving there, the nickel travels to Europe, China, Japan and United States. And no, they're not dragging it around the world with zero emissions vehicles.

I've had several Pious drivers trying to race me in the M135i; WTF?!!

They may think they're the saviours of humanity but actually they're uptight goons that backed the wrong horse.

The reason for this post is my overall dissatisfaction with the way the public(at least it seams to me) views BMW drivers/owners. If you see the commercials(Audi in particular), look up BMW memes, or ask anyone what they feel or think, it is pretty much the same thing. BMW drivers are D..... B..'s, A..Holes, Jerks, and D...'s. We don't use our blinkers, follow to close, or just act like we own the road. I for one feel that I am an upstanding driver. I get upset at people, not just BMW drivers, when they don't use blinkers, merge nicely, or just don't pay attention. I get upset at myself if I don't use my blinker. I try to be as courteous as possible. I let people merge, I drive slow in parking lots and residential areas. I we wait while someone pulls out or backs into a parking spot. Overall I think people as a whole need to be more aware and pleasant towards each other. Driving is no different. My wife owns a Subaru WRX and it is very nice to see EVERY OTHER person in a Subaru waving. I would like to see the same friendliness between BMW drivers. I'm always waving to other BMW drivers and rarely do I get a wave back. I would also like to see or hear a change in the way the world perceives us. I'd like to ask everyone to please be mindful of others on the road. Don't speed up to block someone from entering the highway. Use your blinkers, they are free to use(from a BMW meme), and use the golden rule. Treat others they way you would like to be treated, it's simple, it's basic but it would change everything if everyone practiced it. So please tell me you'll show everyone that BMW drivers aren't the tools they think we are!
I too am a courteous driver. I let people out of driveways or side streets, I let people make lefts in front of me. I blink every move, albeit a quick blink. I don't take kindly to left lane hogs though. I do see camaraderie and acknowledgement from other BMW drivers on the road, whether it be a nod, or a thumbs up kind of thing.

What I also see more often than not are other drivers trying to screw with me because I drive a high end car, not necessarily a BMW. When I put my blinker on to change lanes, they speed up. Or trying not to let me in on a merge. Seriously?!?! You're going to lose.

I was the first car at a light the other day and a driver making a left on the cross street actually took both hands off the wheel to give me the middle finger with both hands with gusto. What's that all about? Jealousy, plain and simple.

Just enjoy your ride. Haters will be haters. I treat people on the road the same way I treat people in person. I treat people the way I like to be treated. I am courteous until they give me a reason not to be.

One of the best things about being a BMW enthusiast/driver is that while driving normally and courteously, we know that we have at our fingertips the most precisely made cars on the road. That alone make tick people off, but it won't be a result of me being "that guy".

Here in NE, Boston Area, NH, this is what I see from Prius Drivers. If I ever pass one, I take an extra look out for a trooper.

BTW: Boston is probably only second to NY Taxis Drivers for Mass-holes.

I think Americans are way too egotistical/confrontational when it comes to driving. I've driven all over Europe (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, etc.), Kuwait, and Korea and I have never experienced more douche bags than here. Other places, everybody mind their own business, and for the most part are courteous. Here, it is like a challenge, that competitive blood that is good for sports and other matters are no good for the road. In Kuwait, people will cut you off in a second and without remorse but that is because they are going much faster than you and you'll never see them again (forward progress). In the states, it gets personal and the person that cut you off will probably brake check you to "make a point." Road rage ensues and we have entertaining YouTube videos to watch. As far as BMW drivers are concern, when I'm in my M3, I'm extra careful to be aware of other people's "feelings" because I don't want to get in a confrontation that could result in damage to my car (even a rock chip). In my other cars though, I mind my own business, but if you want some, get some, but I'll assure you I'll get the last laugh.
