Fucking Auto Stop AGHHHHHHH
So I just went out for a drive, continuing to get to know the new car and new engine, didn't do too bad, about 45 miles in sport mode, with the transmission in auto too, a reasonably spirited drive, averaged 37 mpg. Unbelievable!
So I am gradually getting used to the ballache of having to hit the Auto Stop button to disable it every time I start the car, with the added niggle that you can't see the light from the driving position so you can't easily check if you've remembered to do it..... anyway I definitely did this time, then I was in sport mode most of teh drive so fine, then nearing home with traffic building up ahead of me I put it into comfort mode, and had to pause at a roundabout and the bloody engine switched itself off! SO if you switch Auto STop off, then drive i sport mode (which in itself disables it), then you switch back into comfort and it re-enables itself? FFS. Whoever invented this shite really needs a good kicking. I hear you can get BMW to code it so it remembers the last setting i.e. off as in fuck. Bu then again, as my 10 year old son said, "Who knows what they would mess up while fixing it for you..." Any other ways round this nonsense? |

stick to the left, sport mode or a hard shove to the brake after coming to a stop all disable stop start.

You can code the stop/start to remember its previous state when you last switched it off. I did it through Carly.
As Steven said when coming to stop press firmer on the brake then release the pressure whilst still depressing the pedal, needs to be done within a second. It will then temporarily disable start stop. |

Top of the list for coding. As per other threads a tenner for a cable and the world is your oyster... well you can do that and some other useful stuff!

BMW won't offer this coding as the taxation of the car is based on the stop start system being active. A third party could coded though as others have said.

Mine doesn't do that. Once I press OFF then that's it for the journey, regardless of Sport/Comfort mode changes.

Yeah agreed, its doesnt enable itself if you go into Comfort mode.
However, if you go into Eco poo mode it WILL enable itself. Maybe the OP did that and didn't realise?

I was pulling up to a stop the other day and went to hit the Auto Stop button, pressed the wrong frigging button and turned the engine off completely, bit of a shocker.
These buttons need to be in different places IMO.

What's the big issue with the engine switching off in comfort mode? Comes back on quickly enough, and sport mode switches it off anyway.

I do find it comes on quickly enough too. By the time I have taken the pressure off the brake pedal and halfway across to the accelerator, the engine is ready. My E90 diesel was much slower to respond though, so maybe certain engines are slower?

Mine stopped working by itself some time ago - maybe due to the black bye draining battery.
Might mention it to the dealer next time in the hope that they'll put on the latest engine and gearbox soft ware. Might try for suspension as well.

Ah yes, Eco Poo will turn it back on. Forgotten that...mainly as I never use Eco Poo.

what alot of people don't realise is how much wear is put on the starter and ring gear, more for dealer to replace when they wear out as it is the flywheel that needs replacing as well as starter motor.

It doesn't suddenly cut out though, it stops when you've stopped. If it's stopping surprises you, maybe you're not paying enough attention. As for wear and tear, has anyone needed work done to fix problems caused by stop start systems yet? I'll concede that it's potentially annoying though, that's entirely subjective.

Engages quickly on mine too, no jarring, very smooth, maybe you have an issue with Auto-Start ?, worth asking a technician to take your car out for a spin.
