I have gotten all of my oil changes done for free so far by the dealership. The vehicle status shows that I have 13000 miles left until I need another oil change.

My car has been showing 13000 since I got my last oil change. It will usually count down, but for some reason has been stuck at this number. Now I am almost to 40000 miles and it looks like with the counter stuck at 13000 I will not get my last oil change for free since it still shows 13000 miles left until I need a change.

Did my dealer do something to make it behave like this on purpose or is there a software issue?

And yes, I have been driving 80 miles a day to work so it should be going down.

How many miles did you have at last change? You said you're almost at 40,000, but how many miles has it been?

The car doesn't just count down the miles, it constantly analyzes your driving. Ex. If you do mostly highway miles, it will give you longer intervals than local.

i don't have the exact number but i estimate it was around 35,000. i have been driving this car a while and i'm aware that it analyzes my driving. the car used to always say 18,000 miles until i needed a change and every day it would slowly go down until 500 miles and i would get it changed. now it doesn't go down at all. ever since they changed the intervals to 10,000 miles instead of 15,000. coincidence?

Every 15,000 miles or annually is the policy - if it's been a year since your last change, they will do an annual service for you.

The mileage at your last oil change servicing should be on your service invoice that you get from the dealer. If not the dealer has it in their system, assuming this is a BMW dealership. They all share the same database system.

With the caveat that it's whatever the car tells you or annually. I've had my oil changed twice so far, once because it had been a year and the 2nd time was because it's when the car said so (it had a date 18 months after the car was delivered).

They didn't reset the mileage or date for next service at the first oil change since the car didn't say it needed it but I got them to do it since it had been a year.

With all that said, if you don't beat it up apparently the oil lasts forever. Mine still said it had 7k miles left when I got my 2nd oil change. Now it says 16k after a month after my last oil change. It seems to only drop in 1k increments also, so one day you're at 16k and the next you may have driven 10 miles and it show 15k.

I think at one point I had 3k miles on my car and it showed 16k until first oil change.

I wouldn't worry about it not going down at all over a 5k mile period. As long as you adhere to the "when the car says so or 12 months, whichever comes first" guideline you're fine. I've seen our cars not count down for a while. My f30 sat at the same counter for months because I was doing so much highway driving. Eventually went down and required service at 18,000 miles, about 10 months into first year.
