Gents,

Please help me figure out what would be the correct way to place my central tweeter:

facing windscreen:


or facing interior:


I thought it should face windscreen where sound will reflect and create ambience, however, I feel that H/K original tweeter's stand fits better facing backwards.

Think of how a ball bounces off the bumper of a pool table. Same principle here, angle of incidence = angle of reflection. I would think that aiming it facing the interior would work better with the way the windshield is angled.

Aimed at the interior it won't tilt down enough. Aimed at the windshield it works fine.

Facing windshield, you want it to reflect off windshield and direct the sound to your head. If it was facing the interior, it won't reflect, and its basically pointing up and over your head, probably closer to the rear view mirror.

So why then when I pulled my stock HK tweeter to replace it was it facing towards the passenger cabin? I very well could be wrong and it shouldn't have been that way in the first place, but that's how it came from BMW.

All the cool kids are doing a center delete anyway.

It shouldn't have, but BMW is in the business of designing cars, not audio systems. I've yet to find any car company that does speakers the way they should be done, it's just not high on their list of priorities.

Sorry, can't help you there. Prototypes for testing aside, I don't build speakers, I design them.

No problem, thanks. You know anyone east coast you could recommend I am all ears.

My stuff is mostly a mix of VMPS and Gallo. The Gallo gear is sexy but the VMPS is really tough to beat performance / $ but some of it is so damn ugly.
