2018 340i residuals

just got a quote from a local dealer on a 2018 340i with residual values of 46% for 45 months and 52% for 36 months (both with 24000km/year). does this seem right? historically i could find 55% on some canadian posts and currently the residuals are 59% in the US for 15K miles (24000kms). is it normal for residuals to be that dissimilar south of the border? at 52% and 2.9% interest, the monthly payments skyrocket. $1100/month tax in for a 340i that isn't even fully loaded? note that this is before any discount off MSRP, however even with a 7% discount off MSRP which seems pretty good based on other deals on BP, lease payments are still almost $1K/month with tax in. this isn't remotely close to a deal i'd do.

also has a $900 "BMW iProtect" charge which is apparently mandatory but for which i can't find *any* information about. google only returns 3 *total* hits on "BMW iProtect", also wheel locks, rubber mats, and $1400 "excess wear and use" protection is mandatory and if removed, will require $1100 security deposit.

a dealer who to this point has given good service is now starting to piss me off...

Residual values aren't necessarily the same in all countries.

Security deposit information is accurate. If you decide not to opt for the excess wear/tear, you will be responsible to put down that security deposit which will be returned at the end of the lease less any deductions and differs from car to car. Security deposit can be $900 or can be $1,100. If you're leasing, it just makes sense to just opt for excess wear/tear. First you don't have to put down that money upfront at delivery and second, at the end of the lease, there's good chance you'll have to replace a few items which will likely cost at much, if not more, than the cost of excess wear/tear.

You can decide not to get wheel locks and mats but that has nothing to do with the security deposit - those are just extras that are added to the price of the car and sometimes the dealer just throws them in. Whether you pay a security deposit depends strictly on whether or not you opt for excess wear/tear.

thx for the response. i wouldn't necessarily expect the residuals to be the same south of the border but i'd expect them to be higher on a new vehicle. maybe there are still a lot of 2017s that they're trying to move so they're not interested in selling 2018s just yet.

Can't compare residual with our neighbors down south. They always get better residuals and lease rates.

you are buying right at the start of the 2018 model year while they are still clearing out the remaining 2017s. Incentives and rates always get better towards the end of the model year.

A lot of BMW dealers like to add bullshit fees like, gas, floor mats, paint protection, tire warranty, protection package and so on... onto the deal. That's how stealers do business these days, they rip off whoever that's not paying attention.

The only charge that I ever got annoyed about was the fuel - new car charge when gas was a lot cheaper because a tank would be around $70 but get charged $90. But with today's gas prices, it's not too big of a deal.

i wouldn't worry about a few bucks here and there.

i have in my mind what a good deal will be in a $$$/month. i'm largely indifferent as to whether a dealer gets there with a lower interest rate, higher residual, lower purchase price, etc. so they can throw in all the BS amounts they want, or take them out. i have a good idea what the car is worth (to me) and that's the deal i will take or not take.

i am dealing with 3 dealers right now and it's interesting to see how the BS fees differ and how they use them. one had a lot more up front cash but a lower monthly, others rolled some more dollars into the lease and had lower upfront costs.

my gut right now is with a 2.9% interest rate and more so, a 52% residual on a 36 month term with 24 000 kms, i don't think any dealer can give me the deal i want. it would require too high a discount off purchase price. i may be wrong. lastly, i don't think they are going to sell many 2018s this month as a result. might just be anecdotal but i am seeing a TON of new C classes around my area... probably 10:1 ratio to new 3 series.

thx... when i last looked i calculated a 59% residual. memory might be failing me. 56% vs 52% residual works out to an additional $70/month pre-tax. i guess we'll see what october holds.

Still cant find a '17 6mt bud? Payments on a '18 lease are brutal.

The blue one in Laval is still for sale; with both M packs, icrap and premium.

There's a $3,500 delivery credit on 2017 MY 3 series right now... if they can find you one, might be a wise option.
