Wireless Charging Pad

Hi Everyone,

I have the wireless charging pad in my car and was wondering will it be compatible with the just announced iPhone 8/8 Plus & X models. Or will we need to buy the adapter for the new iPhones?

Thanks

The just announced phones use the Qi standard for inductive charging, so they should all work just fine without buying an adapter case.

BMW was featured in the presentation both an incar image and on their page of compatible devices

i was concerned about this myself as i added it to my order in hopes apple would do the right thing

I guess it will only support the 8 and not 8plus... the charger in the 4 series at least won't extend enough for the plus model (my 6plus do not physically fit in the charger) I do not think the 8plus will be smaller than the 6plus

Does anyone have the exact dimensions/know if the X will fit?

can a wireless charging pad be retrofitted to a BMW if you don't have it?

I would assume not going by cybletech's post considering the 6+, 8+ and X are all roughly the same size.

no they are not almost the same size

8+ is 6.24 inches tall
X is 5.65 inches tall
Std 8 is 5.45 inches tall
source: APPLE'S WEBSITE

you can see the X is MUCH closer in size to the standard 8

the case BMW sells for the standard size 7 looks to be bigger than the X, not sure where to find the official dimensions but eyeball test says an X should fit with room to spare

My 6plus is too long by 0.5 inch (approx). I would have loved that it would have fitted even without charging. It would at least be secured tight.

The wireless charging option offered in the 2017+ (2016.5?) models. I think it also comes bundled with CarPlay.

Not sure if it can be retrofitted but I'm hoping someone has tried it and can chime in

Where is the phone stored for wireless charging? Is it in inside the center armrest or is it near the cupholders?

I have seen it done, ecs tuning sells a kit for it. I believe I saw a DIY on bimmerfest, it didn't look hard I plan on doing it myself.

I like it, i use the wire right now and it keeps clutter out of the cup holders and wires running everywhere. Wireless charging makes it one step easier just drop the phone in and good to go
