12 days sitting in garage - will battery make it?

It's that season again, like many I am heading for some much deserved r&r. Usually when I head out for over a week I connect my ctek. But decided not too as it's giving off a fairly loud hiss sound which I don't feel 100% safe about.

Assuming my battery is in good shape, which I have no reason to think is not the case....

Anyone leave their f30 idle for 2 weeks or longer without a tender and returned home to have it fire up without issues?

All 3 of my BMWs sit for longer than that at one time or another with no issues at all. You should be fine unless your battery is at the end of its life.

I would get another Ctek. I have three tenders and use them quite frequently when any of my cars will be sitting for awhile.

12 days ... you are living on the edge!

My wife seldom drive her Z4. Many times for a month or longer and has never had a problem with the battery. You should not have a problem.

If it does not make it 2 weeks, there is a major issue. I routinely go months without starting my cars and will spend 8-9 months away where the car fires right up on return. I use to disconnect, but now-a-days cars should be able to make it.

My wife (F30 328xd) and I (E90 335d) were on vacation to NZ and OZ for almost 5 weeks. Both started immediately upon return. No trickle chargers or other prep.

I just did an 11 day work run out of town and left my car in the driveway with a cover on it, outdoors, the whole time and the battery was fine. Started right up when I got home.

Not an issue in summer. It could be in winter, depending where you live.

If I'm gone for more than a few weeks I usually recharge before use. You certainly don't want to do anything to increase the BMW alternator's workload.

Garage List
OP If it goes flat that quickly you need a new battery.

Or the reverse if you live in a hot climate like greater Phoenix. Should be fine in the winter and questionable in the summer (if the car is left exposed to the heat).

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the input folks. By the sounds of it should be fine.

Feels like there is a lot of paranoia here. These are modern cars tested in extreme high and low temperatures. The battery does not need any help.

There is no question that batteries do not hold a charge well in below freezing temperatures. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that no one's out to get you.

Like everyone else has said.... it will be fine. I have done 4 months away and she fired right up no problems. I did not do anything special, I simply parked it like I normally would have.
