The old wedged sponge trick! That is freakin' genius. I though I'd thought of everything to fix this damn noise but I guess not.

I took mine to the dealer also and they said they verified the issue. They said the bottom piece was not fitted correctly so they corrected it, road tested it, and it was gone. I had my doubts about this and lo and behold, the issue is still there. However, today I inserted a small microfiber rag into the space where maverick83 put the sponge, and, oh yes, the silence is like a Strauss waltz to my ears.

Let me give it a try, thanks for the tip.

Mine is actually stuck there, one side of the neoprene strip has adhesive. The steering column moves freely as well.

Interesting. If the one side has adhesive, how were you able to slide it in?

Excuse my lack of knowledge but what type of sponge is that? I'm having the exact same problem. Where can I find this type of sponge/rug?

Its a neoprene type sponge you buy in strips with one adhesive side. Its usually used to seal windows and doors, on houses. The sponge will return to its original shape if compressed.

I have extended the steering wheel completely, applied the sponge on the spot I checked previously, then pushed it flat all the way after which I then returned the steering wheel to my preferred position. Done...

I just wedged some foam tape weatherstripping in the same spot as yours. No rattles/buzzes this morning. Without that damn noise it feels like a different car.

Took mine in last Wednesday and shop foreman can reproduced the buzz noise, he mentioned it came from steering column and got to wait until the repair is completed and will keep you posted.

Any update?

Need to take my car in for service, also have this same annoying rattle. Did the dealership fix the problem?

Yeah, my dealer couldn't fix this either but I used Maverick's method and now I have 2 pieces of foam tape stuffed in between the column and the dash on both sides. It works, but jeez you'd think BMW could do a little redesign to fix this (and all their other common rattles).
