Engine warning light... Anyone had this and what was the issue?

This little light came on today and hasn't gone away after a few stops. Nothing showing in the check control/vehicle status, and nothing different how it's performing since it came on, though bizarrely it did stall earlier today before the light came on, immediately after I started it up. This has happened to me once before a month or two back, but never saw any warning lights.
Interested to hear if anyone else has had this and what it turned out to be?
It's booked in for a service next week anyway so going to use it as normal till then unless something changes or anyone credibly suggests otherwise?

Yes exactly. Need a code scan but suspect a failed sensor if it's still running ok.

It does!

I had that light on when I needed a new coil pack on my 330i.

Diagnostics will tell the dealer what it is as should record a fault code.

Thanks. Spoke to the old man (retired BMW technician) and he said much the same thing. Just very curious as to whether others had similar issues.

I had a glow plug issue on two previous cars but can't remember if they had the same warning light or if there is a different one for them.

It's been in twice since the remap, and had warranty work done too, so not overly concerned. if it's a sensor that's failed then the remap will have nothing to do with it, and they'll just get on with sorting whatever the issues is. Hopefully!

Yeh, general engine management light, could be one of a few sensors, not sure if dpf would come under that light ( i assume these cars have dpf? )

I try to drive sensibly when in "work" mode as only get 14p per mile. At the weekend I then drive like I stole it! Average over 49k is 35mpg so I more than make up for it!

Where is that again Marcin? I'm in Windsor area on Thursday so if that's near by to where you are then that might be handy actually.

Fairy snuff - can't blame you for that.
I'm seeing just shy of 36mpg through 9,000, so similar to you. Mines a mixture of sedate late night driving and some daytime blasts so probably a similar combination.

Back you your original question.....I have no idea, sorry

Solid yellow symbol is an emissions issue....

Had this on my X3 diesel, before I got shot of it, could be a number of issues, such as

Airflow problem
Poor fuel/air mix
Sensor failure (particularly MAF)
Sticking swirlflaps
Coked up manifold (more likely only on high mileage or older cars, particularly if running std diesel)
Turbo issues
Etc...

After 5.5 years of hassle free motoring, started getting the error every few weeks, (would last a day or two). A manual DPF regen also seemed to clear it, so started using better quality fuels, but the error started to appear more frequently. Googling it threw up all of the above potential problems (and more), and some eye watering stealership costs for MAF replacements and engine de-cokes, which made me start considering my new car. In the end, a friend of a friend had a diagnostic check done on the car, and sticking swirlflaps were deemed to be the problem, but may not have been the only problem, so simply got the error cleared before trading the car in....

Hopefully just a one off glitch for you, and not the start of similar hassle...

Cheers that's interesting and more what I was wondering. It's gone now but will obviously be interested to see if it returns. I should find out more next week when it gets serviced.

Mine's in Friday at almost identical mileage to you.

No warning lights but I had my funny motorway misfire thing they will investigate (although it never missed a beat on the way back from Spain).

Would be interesting to see if diagnostics pick up similar issues.
