1. Massive lag on R - I dont care, drives so good that I cannot be bothered. Constantly keeping it on 5k , problem solved.

2. Some lag on 330d. Noticeable cause car is not very entertaining to drive and you are sitting inside being judgemental and picky as fook. Your fault not car's

3. 335d. Look above.

4. S8 - They strapped 2 massive turbos in. They dont care about the lag... so do I. There is a lag, not as noticeable as on others but still. Turbo is turbo. Sacrifices had to be made.

Masser - NA V8. Any questions about lag?!?! Thank you.

Btw - if I was doing innner commute every day .... 330d/335d is the best car for that. Period. At least engine should be warm by the time you get there 🙊
Regarding the lag on the R, a lot of it has to do with the DSG gearbox in auto. I've massively reduced the lag in mine by putting on a DTUK pedal box. I was a bit suspect about it before I got it, but it really is one of the best bang for buck mods you can do. The intake also improves low end response so now the lag is very little and almost on a par with my old 335d, better than previous 330d. Both these mods together with the JB4 are epic.

Having moved recently from a manual to auto gearbox, this was my biggest gripe.

Flooring the throttle results in a significant delay while the box makes up its mind as to what gear it wants to be in.

Rather than instant acceleration, it spends time changing down gears before anything happens.

IMO. Far worse than turbo lag.
Tend to agree with the above.

My E92 335i was a manual and I can't say I really noticed turbo lag in normal driving. Perhaps the throttle response wasn't quite as sharp as it could have been (almost like the flywheel was a bit heavy when you blipped the throttle) but there certainly wasn't lag of the sort you'd experience in (say) a typical turbo car from the 1980's.

In my 335d I find delays in response are invariably down to the gearbox thinking about what to do rather than any turbo lag with the engine. Stick it manual mode and use the paddles and it's much better although to be fair I find it more than adequate in auto mode most of the time.

Not an enjoyable drive as It just seems too clinical (I think this is me missing the MPE on my car)

Pro
Adaptive suspension is amazing will definitely get this if I get another bmw
ID6 looks nice and seems better than ID5

All in all quite disappointed and looking forward to getting my 328i back today.
WTF?? 5 pages of replies says something.

There's a lot of things wrong with the F3x but the x35D engine certainly isn't one of them. I can't say I'm blown away by the whole package but the engine/ZF 'box combo is probably its saviour
Not sure driving style comes into it when ZF controls the changes.
Engine noise? Some dick puts fake noise through the steereo and even that is drowned out by tyre roar and wind noise. Yes it's a diesel but it's a good diesel.
Turbo lag? Just no. I mean NO. I have NA petrols with more lag. Don't care how new it is, I think it must be a wrong'un. Blown small turbo? Mine lost it's oil at 2000 miles through the turbo but I stopped and saved it. Maybe some sales-boy has done one too many launches.
Clinical? Yes I suppose it is. It is German you know

Have to say 335d really impressive. Ticks a lot of boxes and traction is amazing, loads of power and amazing mpg.
Had mine 18 months going soon will miss the masses of low down torque.

I'm thrilled you feel like this after 18 months, I do but only after 4 months. I genuinely love the 335d and it serves many purposes for me. A hoot to drive.

Lol a lot of touchy 335d drivers...
Unless you drive a rally car with antilag any non na car will have it. As for the 335d vs 340 stats it just shows how much 335d don't really enjoy driving as yes you have to be in the correct gear in a 340 to really maximize performance, however you then get to rev that engine and its most enjoyable (and quicker..)

"Laggy" isn't a word I would use to describe the 335d. Neither was "fun" though to be fair, although it came respecatbly close, until the suspension was modded and the top end unleashed by DMS. Now it can be fun when it needs to be as well.

I think it's a phenomenal car, very good for making progress on a commute (just use the paddles to gearbox or turbo lag). We seem to expect alot from modern turbo diesels... the new Audi lump promising peak torque pretty much at idle may redefine things but I've been very happy with the 335d.

All that said, I had just bought a 430hp TTRS as I was missing the sound and smell of driving a petrol, can't afford a porsche just yet so this will be my stop-gap for fun
