I got my kit from BMW dealer, so it comes with the m-sport deform elements. Depends on where you got your kit from. There are aftermarket kits that don't require you to replace the sports-line deform elements and lower mount carrier bar.

I wanted my m-sport bumper to be as authentic as the original. I didn't bother testing to see if the m-sport bumper would fit without having to change out the deform elements and lower mount bar from sports-line. They are quite different in size and shape. The bar for the sports-line is thick and round, the m-sport version is wide and thin.

Nice Write up man. Quick question though?

My car has the stock bumper with fog lights. I am getting an M-Sport bumper WITHOUT the fog grills. Now, if I would like to keep the fogs on the M-Sport bumper, do I only need to purchase the M-Sport grills for the fogs? And, will the stock fogs work on the M-Sport fog grills?

Hope I am clear.

You will also need to get the fog lamp support pieces:

51-11-8-054-511 - Fog Lamp Support Left
51-11-8-054-512 - Fog Lamp Support Right

Your stock fogs will work.....

So this is one of the most helpful write ups I've ever seen. Makes me wonder if you're an engineer, tester, trainer, or something to that nature. Very great work.

Now, even if it's helpful, it also raises a dillema: Is it worth it based on the options I have?

Option 1 - OEM M Sport bumper $200. Only comes with the middle grill insert, 2 air dams, side grill covers (where the fogs would go). This means I have A LOT more parts to buy which would probably cost more than the bumper itself. But it's OEM.

Option 2 - Aftermark Bumper $450-$500 shipped. Comes with all of the hardware required. Just paint and install. Less of a hassle, no additional parts needed to be purchased. But it's aftermarket.

Wondering how much I would really have to spend with option 1. As of now, my priorities are to make it look good, stay cost efficient and less of a hassle. If this means no OEM, then so be it. So OP and other readers, what would you do?

d_a_m Option 1 cost me a little over 900 bucks for parts. Additional $500 to match paint. Additional 50 bucks for tool and accessories i didn't have.

If you want to go cheap, Ebay aftermarket and be done with it.

Actually yes I went w the after market for everything (front, sides, rear). Cheap? Maybe to some but it was still expensive just for the bumpers and hardware plus paint and installation. At the end of the day, I'm happy w it. Really appreciate the input and write up.

Did you need to do the deformation elements etc with the aftermarket kit? Or is that more or less bolt on?

I've seen a few aftermarket kits that were just bolt-on. They leave out the cross beam.

Do you have any links or examples? Its pretty much hopeless to find something like this in Norway, and im probably looking at around 6000$(converted from NOK) for OEM parts, paint and install here
