N55 cold-start issue
Hey y'all,
I have a n55 335i, and the last month or so, the car has developed an issue with cold starts. I'll start it, and the revs will jump all over the place as it's warming up. It will usually stay below 2k rpm while doing this, and eventually settles down at the normal ~750? RPM. Runs fine and everything, but cold starts are pretty violent. Put it in reverse as soon as I turned it on today, and it got REALLY rough, until it eventually settled down. Where should I start digging? I'm in CPO warranty, is this probably covered? No check control notifications or anything. Gas mileage has taken a hit, but it might be due to a lot of city driving recently. Thank you! |

Hasn't thrown anything at me yet, which is surprising considering how violent the start is. I'm thinking the only way they'll be able to replicate it is waiting for a cold start. It's under BMW CPO still. I'll try to take a video next time.

Well you can always drop it off and tell them not to look at it until next day. Have them start it in the morning themselves.. Best approach I think..

From what I've read, that's the deductible for warranty work. I haven't used the CPO before, since I've been in original warranty until now.
However, even under original warranty, they refused to fix the bad odor coming from my AC, claiming it's a maintenance issue. They wanted $200+ to fix smelly AC in a car with less than 50k miles, still under original warranty. Just wanted to see if this is a documented issue, and if I could fix something myself before going through the dealership hassle. |
