335d value of 1y old car - shocked

Reading one of the threads about insurance going up I start browsing how much I would have to pay soon and I was shocked seeing the value of my car Moneysupermarket used for insurance.
After putting my details i got current value of my car
£25795
And remark at the bottom:
"Note: We have used a car industry valuation service to tell us the value of the car."

How could that be that £50k car would loose 50% in a year!!
And that shows how much you can expect from them just in case if the car is stolen or written off. BTW, AFAIR the guaranteed value of my car at the end of 3y contract was something about £21-22k

Garage List
The average selling price for 335d's on autotrader and at dealerships is £35k +.

I was offered £29k for mine by a dealer today which i found insulting since he had another 2 or 3 similar spec to mine but not as good for £36k and over on his site.

He's been the best so far. Others being £27k, £28k and £22k at WBAC! Lol.

No thanks buddy!!!

Unfortunately, that's what they tend to drop to.

One of the other major reasons to have Gap insurance.

Not many people can cough up 25k just to replace their car.

And the £36k used one won't actually sell for £36k either.

That's right but at least it was the invoice price before discount and bear in mind that there are plenty of people who didn't have any discount at all or minimal.
I could have been one of them if I didn't start reading this forum

When we got our BMWs I got a 25% discount. Anything less than that is unacceptable as the cars depreciate beautifully and they are worth beans. Great second hand buys, though.

It's actually pretty easy to hit 50k

Even my pauper spec is around 46k I think.

Prof Nav, ACC, HUD, M+Sport package, adaptive suspension, surround view and reversing camera, heated front seats, comfort package, speed limit display, folding mirrors....that's it, I suppose.

It does the beg the question... What is the best strategy for selling a car?

1. Literally sell the thing almost as soon as you've bought it(change car less than every 6 months with less than 10k on the clock

2. Keep it till the end of the warranty period

3. Keep it till its about 6 years old

4. Run the thing into the ground.

I've just bought my 330d, and it's the first time I've bought a brand new car. Paid cash up front, so now wondering what to do when it comes to selling...

Considering you can get a basic 335d with pro media new for less than 33k that price seems right.

Personally for me the best approach is to consider a car as an expense rather than an asset and decide what you want to pay monthly.

Depends what you want

The biggest deprecation is at the start

After 3 years there's always new tech

Have leased previously.

Bought new.
Bought literally 2nd hand with 1k on clock.

Bought 5 yr old cars,
Bought heaps for 1k as was cheap and needed something to get from a to b, lasted 3 years without any problems.

Our mondeo we bought new in 2007, new MK4.
Was 24k got it for 17k and then a 4 k trade in as deposit.
Had it valued at servicing by ford at 4500
So not a bad return on it.

I forgot about EBT and visibility package but surprisingly my configuration comes cheaper than a year ago, it is now less than £49k. I can see that prof media is now £900 but I think it was £1900 or something, is it correct?

The value of your car doesn't matter today unless you plan to sell it now. If you're happy to keep it, don't worry about it. Leave that for another day when you're ready to change.

So my cars listed at about a fiver under £50 around 16 months ago.

I've travelled 30,000 miles in it and my GFV is £14,301 (in another 32 months!).
