With all those on here getting a winter set surely I'm not the only person considering a set of bags to a) get the other set home from the fitter and b) store in the garage.

Anyone bought any? e.g.

Well i had the wheel stand - but if the wheels are knocked against the base will break - as mine did - so have new one which is tethered by a strap to the wall - so much more secure

As for bags...............i looked for BMW ones but couldn't find any, some of the ones on Amazon were too small, or not well reviewed and expensive!
so i did the unthinkable - bought a set from Au...................about 26 quid from online A***....dealer and being A***.......they are good quality and well made

so keep them in a darkened corner remove the light bulb and no one will see the four........ on the bags
but they are very strong and fully adjustable up to 20" wheels

What wheels and/or tyres are you going for? My dealer is going to store mine for me (if they ever show up!).

My wife has a little Audi A1. Kwik-fit will swap and store her winter/summer tyres in something they call "tyre hotel".

Beats clogging up the garage! (which I plan to knock down anyway!)

I've got my winter tyres in tyre bags. Pretty sure I looked at Amazon for tyre bags, read all the reviews and got those which which were best recommended. paid about £25 or so.


Word of warning. I think most bags fitted 16" wheels Ok. Mine were Ok for 17" but not more. careful if you have 18s cos they might not fit!

What effect does putting the tyres into bags have, I store mine in the garage and they get thoroughly cleaned before I put them away. Do I need these?

Personally I think there sh*t, used them last year in the lakes and they just ripped and fell off. Winter tyres is a must and if your going in deep snow invest in some snow chains

Yep for storage, not those snow sock things.

Loved the Au** based response. Wash your mouth Uncle! (actually, I'll look into it...ahem).

18" wheels bought and in my garage now. Tyres will be fitted when F1 Autocentre is back in stock. Hence I need the bags, if only to take the bare wheels there, then bring the 19s inc summer tyres that are coming off home. After that it's a diy jack and swap job. So bags need to be big enough for 19s hence the link to the larger type ones.

But I do a lot in my garage, inc paint spraying, and I just thought for the price of a takeaway I should protect whichever set isn't on. Putting them in bags is merely a reasonable thing to do given the potential damage that could occurr on nearly £1.5k of wheels. Plus it looks a bit nicer. I could store elsewhere, but I have room. Plus I can change conveniently on a whim.

Not after fur-lined climate controlled ones, just a bit of canvas with a zip or drawstring. Hang on, I'm sure there's a sewing machine in the loft...

I would soon rather pay the £35 to store them each season which includes a free reinstall of the summer wheels in the spring.

Personally having wheels worth over 2k sitting in my garage for 5 months poses a theft risk which some insurers would not cover. At least if they go missing at the tyre company it is their responsibility to replace.

You would therefore be paying for tyre bags or stand plus the cost to change the wheels over, unless you do it yourself like me the first time and which took over an hour. Can't be bothered with hassle anymore.

I was looking on ebay last week for this very thing. Most didn't seem to fit my 19" summer wheels to store during winter. Any recommendations? Happy to go down the A*** route

I want to store/fit my own wheels. Apart from anything it gives me a chance to give them a good clean and a couple of protective coats of sealant.

Edit: £23 for a set of Audi bags seems a bargain. I'll be popping into my local dealer.
Standard size says it fits up to 20"

When I got my tyre bags, the main advantage was that the tyres would be out of the daylight which is supposed to be bad for the rubber if stored in one way for a considerable period.

also was told to store tyres only on their side. If you are storing wheels, conversely, was told to store them upright. this could be checked via car mag websites, honest john etc.
