BMW Connected app won't... connect.

I have a 2012 F30 with CIC and all Pro media options.

For some reason, I didn't realise that there's a BMW Connected app for iPhone until yesterday. So I just tried using it and it won't connect, either using the cradle (iPhone 4S) or the USB cable.

It's not an NBT only feature, is it?

On a possibly related note, when I connect using the cradle I can only stream music from my iPhone via Bluetooth. Normally, I have my iPod Classic connected by USB so I don't know if the system can only deal with one USB device and one bluetooth device but I've tried disconnecting my iPod and it didn't help.

Any thoughts?

When you purchased your car, did you take the BMW Apps option? If not, you can't use the BMW Connected App unless you have that necessary packages.

If you don't have it, you can purchase an FSC code from the dealer to enable it but it's not going to be cheap.

Thanks. I do have BMW Apps - I have a menu option for them in iDrive and have installed some, although frankly I don't see the point in most of the iDrive-only apps.

Do you have a Plug-in menu in "Connected Drive" section?

Connect drive app won't work on 2012 models. Only models after July 2013 prod date.

Thanks. Thought that might be the case but couldn't find anything that says that - app just says "speak to your dealer". Oh well.

It should work if he's using iOS. For Android, your vehicle needs to be a 2014 model but the older version always supported iOS without any issue.

When you go to Connect drive, do you see Apps right under Road Side Assistance and Your service Centre?

Thanks. I've since found articles from 2010 about the iPhone app so was wondering whether that was the case.

I have an Apps option under BMW Online but I can't remember where exactly it is in the menu tree, I'll look tomorrow.

Ill post here as I dont want to start a new thread...

2014 335 x-drive with professional navigation and bmw APPS, but my Nexus 5 won't connect with the usb in the center console.

With bluetooth everything's ok with my contact list and music streaming but I'd like to use the android bmw connected app as it says that its compatible with Nexus 5

I just updated the software of the navigation system with the new bmw update but it still does'nt recognize the nexus 5.

Tried with the gf's iphone4 and it works with the usb plug...

Is there something with the nexus 5?

Visit www.bmw.com/update. Using the last 7 of your VIN check to see if there's a software update for your car. Unless your car was in for maintenance recently (and had a software upgrade) your car NEEDS to be updated.

Follow instructions to grab update, save to a USB thumb drive and install through center armrest USB port.

I think he means only for Android. Pre-2014 models with BMW Apps can use only the iOS version.

Sorry it's taken me so long to reply, I had to travel on business last week and it was a catalogue of crises and mishaps.

Under Connecteddrive, I don't have an Apps menu. If I go to BMW Online, though, I do have a menu that says "Applications".

I'm starting to wonder whether I'm wrong and that I don't have the Apps option. I might call the BMW Connecteddrive support people when I get the chance while I'm in the car.

If that's the case then you don't have BMW Apps.

You can go to bmwvin.com and enter the last 7 digits of your VIN. If the 6NR option isn't there then that confirm that you don't have it.
