Checking oil while playing hip hop or trance music/dubstep

I ran the oil level check while playing loud music with bass. Apparently this causes the oil to splash around to the beat of the music prevent the idrive from reading the oil level.

Consider what it's doing to your eardrums. To quote Pete Townshend: "Huh?"

Pete Townsend is before my time, but I'm old enough that I would have suffered hearing loss by now. The members of Metallica tolerate volumes several times louder than the HK system is capable of, for example at the Grammys with Lady Gaga, yet judging by there performance in Jimmy Fallon they can hear just fine despite decades of loud music now that they are in their 50's and even with decades of drug use. I go by the rule if it's not loud enough to make me uncomfortable it's all 😊 . I'm sure the baby boomers enjoyed plenty of rock and roll concerts in there Day and most are still hearing just fine.

Google "Lars Ulrich hearing loss" and you'll realize what a poor example you chose to prove your medical theory. Its only been in the news for about 8 years now.

Like I said, much louder and for longer periods at a time on a regular basis yet neither him or James Hetfield are far from deaf despite this. I for one don't have any hearing loss and I don't listen anywhere near max volume. It's not even quarter volume. I've been a fan of music that's typically played loud in bars and clubs for over 20+ years and I'm totally fine. I know my limits and I'm not looking to kill myself lol.

They use in-ear monitors, which protects them from the volume of the amps.

OP, I don't give a crap what music you listen to or at what volume, it's your hearing. But I have Tinnitus, trust me, you don't want this! Constant, unending inescapable ringing that at times feels like ... claustraphobia. Most of the time it's just there and I accept it as part of my life's experience but at times it is truly overwhelming, almost debilitating and I would do ANYTHING to undo the damage that loud trucks, music and industrial machines have done to my hearing. That is never going to happen because there is no cure, no effective treatment, no options. It sounds (pun intended) like it is not too late for you and I would urge you to re-examine your thoughts on this subject, when the damage is done it can't be undone. When you notice you have damage it's too late. Thats my two cents worth and I'll get down off the soapbox. Whatever decision you make you will live with for the rest of your life, choose wisely.

I didn't comment on your hearing, your taste in music or your idea of what louder & longer means. I didn't even comment on your suggestion that being able to still perform well meant they could hear well. I simply pointed out you picked a very poor example which is just plain a fact. Lars has very damaged hearing. When you find yourself at the bottom of a deep hole, the first action should be to stop digging.

So, the takeaway is, turn down the volume down when checking the oil. Got it.

Some say the mark of an intelligent person is the ability to accept sound advice when given. Maybe it is, maybe not.

That said, 4 years of Navy communications, many more of firing high caliber weapons with inadequate hearing protection along with 40 years of riding motorcycles, too many also with little to no hearing protection have left me with the same affliction. Its not something I would wish on anyone.

If you drive 200 Miles non stop you should get a message from the iDrive screen saying would you like to take a coffee break? Not sure if this works on all models but happened to me before.

Shoot, I don't stop until the tank is emtpy unless my passengers ask very nicely. Road trips are fill-up to fill-up. With the small tank but high Hwy fuel economy of my new car, I might get longer runs than I'm used to. We will see, but not anytime soon, as the next 3 road trips won't be in my F30.

I had to look up what the heck "trance" and "dubstep" music was. It reminds me a bit of the music in that snl skit with will Farrell and Chris Kattan:

But seriously, everyone has different tastes - enjoy your sound system!
