Not a biggie. My current e90 was built in Rosslyn, South Africa and it holds up well. I would not be worried about a South African build in the least! If you want to guarantee a German build, you're going to have to pick it up yourself.

Too bad they don't offer a pick up in South Africa, that would be an excellent trip

Jez. People, the car is built (put together) in South Africa, parts (engine, etc.) manufactured in Germany. So, basically you have a car put together in South Africa but German built.

My guess is that people haven't been to South Africa, it's quite an advanced country. Probably more advanced than some European countries out there (no offense).

Why so mysterious? If there's something to tell about South African builds you should let the community know. Saying "you know alot." doesn't actually say anything at all.

So, spill the beans...

The build process doesn't matter imho. I think they build it there so it will ship faster (correct?) to the USA. It is still German engineering, I'm sure they cannot afford to let quality down.

That said, I'm sure they can arrange something for you if you like to have German build but prepared to get some laughs at you..

If you ever toured the production plant in Munich you'd hard pressed to see anyone but robots on the assembly line.

To late for that my car is arriving at port Tommarrow. I was wondering why my car got here so fast. Whatever im disappointed in BMW this is my 4th one i was really love when its built in Europe. The people get paid more and they more pride in their work.

Rosslyn plan has been one of the top performing BMW assembly plants for decades. I am very happy that my 2005 built E90 325i was built there. Very happy, no crying and 1,000,000+ thumbs up!!!!!

Looking forward to my SA built F30.

Yes, 3 Series are built here in South Africa. Soon to be close to 600 a day

The F30 will also be supplied to the USA and Canada from here
Actually 25% of all F30 worldwide will be built here.

Full production of F30 was opened here today. So first shipment to USA will be soon.

Whats the difference if a ABB robot welds the car in Germany or here in South Africa ?
A lot of the German assembled cars leather comes from here anyway.

BMW South Africa have also won the internal quality competition for many years.
A number of markets reported 60-80% less faults when switching from Germany to South African supplied E46 or E90.
BMW USA quality does not come close. Especially not when they made the Z4.

Final assembly and testing is by human hand, no matter where the factory.

Since you seem to be so concerned about your F30 being built in South Africa, I thought I read somewhere in this forum that the South African plant for F30 building won't come online until March. This was also part of the reasoning for not all colors being available at launch (limit orders as all production facilities weren't yet available).

After getting the VIN for my 335i currently enroute, I decoded it to find out that mine was built in Munich to be specific. If the first letter of your VIN is W, its German built. The specific factory built at is the 11th character.
