Chassis Function Restricted

Made a 600 mile round-trip this weekend. While on the way back, it shows up with a warning "Chassis Function Restricted", and asking to contact BMW customer service. The error's been coming up ever since, every time I start the car. Did any one else have this come up?

I guess it has to be some minor issue with your EDC system. The damper control unit gets info from sensors in the front - it's possible that one of these sensors malfunctioned and it needs to be replaced but that's just an uneducated guess. If it's not a sensor problem then it has something to do with the suspension.

Yes, I thought it might be a software bug and will go away but the error is persisting. The car is riding stiff (to me, appears stiffer than in SPORT mode). Moving to COMFORT mode does not change anything. Hope it is the sensor and not a suspension problem.

Finally got around taking my car to the dealer. As you correctly guessed, it was a sensor problem. The 'Vertical acceleration sensor on right front strut' was replaced to fix the problem. Fortunately, it was under warranty. Without warranty, it would've cost an outrageous $1600 (as I was told).

I'm glad it's solved without any cost! $1600? That's outrageous indeed. No wonder why you can get impressive discount on parts if you have a fine relationship with your dealer...
