fuel cap closure

Have you experienced odd behavior of the fuel cap?
I refueled for the third time ever with this car and when finished, the fuel cap would not close completely. It was at a 10 degree angle compared to the other body work.
Upon inspection the cap would not "click close".

When i got home is could lock the cap by pushing it closed and then lock the car.
When i unlock the car, the cap moves outward about 1mm and moves in 1mm when i lock the car. Do you recognize this?
I don't recall to have seen this before.

Could this be due to the rainy weather and a drop of rain interfering with the magnet? (is it a magnet or a spring click?)

Have not experienced this. Perhaps moisture in the locking mechanism froze (must be cold by you now) and interfering with locking? I'm not a fan of the new gas cap but stuck with it.

I assume you are talking about the lid and not the cap. The lid cannot be fully closed if the car is locked. Are you sure your car was unlocked when you attempted to close the lid at the gas station? I have also noticed that if you push the lid while closed and the car is locked, it snaps open as soon as you unlock the car.

That is not a cool feature!
My problem was indeed with the lid. I wiped the inside dry and could no longer reproduce the issue.

I have just had exactly the same problem. Only had the car 2 weeks, washing for the first time, cleaned around fuel cap then found flap would not close fully. It seemed as if the return spring was not strong enough. Tried locking and unlocking, made sure that the locking pin was out of the way. Checked the opening mechanism, this is like a little button that pushes the flap open slightly when pressed, if it's pressed a second time it goes back in but the flap just seemed to be flapping loose and a few degrees open. I could very gently press it closed but when released it would flop open, it only needed very light pressure to close but would not stay shut.

Had some lunch and checked Google which brought me to this post, after an hour all ready to go to local dealer but went to check car one last time and it now works perfectly. I can't explain it, the similarity to this post is that obviously the car was wet but this doesn't make any sense to me.

Will monitor over the next few weeks.

Probably an attendant drop the gas nozzle on the ground and some little stones sticked on it, then transferred to your gas cap.

By you wipping it off, you have gotten the little stones from ur gas cap.

You cannot drop the gas cap; it is permanently tethered to the car.

This happened to me this morning...it was 15F out, so I'm assuming it's weather related?

Anyone have a fix?

It never happened to me again. I think it was because of some water. I was able to close it while pressing it close and then lock the car.

ok, so that now that's it's warmed up to (I kid you not) 23F, should I go and try it?
I didn't get water in it...well, it's been snowing, maybe it got in?
I emailed my CA and she said they have spare springs in case that's what's sticking...

I guess I'll clean off the contacts and see...

Yep this just happened to me last week. Make sure the cord attached to the cap is tucked away. Seems like it gets in the way easily

My fuel filler door is having issues also. Its cold about 15 degrees. Regardless of the outside temperature I think it could fit better.

It happens when it's below freezing for me...dealer is looking at this right now. Sigh.
