340i mpg
Im not even ashamed to post this. Some will say whats the point in gaving a 340i blah blah blah, but I did a run from sheffield to Warwickshire and managed an amasing 47mpg. Now this was due to the m1 haldex cameras and riadworks forcing much cruise control and having my wife and daughter in the car so sensible driving was the order of the day. I will caveat this all with the fact that my normal driving returns around 31mpg, but it means that the boring family runs can be very economical indeed.

30mpg ish average sounds reasonable to me. The 40i seems happy cruising along using its torque. So, on a steady run in flowing traffic over flat ground I can see the above happening. I've managed 39mpg on a family run, but there are a few hills in Cumbria.
Impressive, thanks for sharing.

Excellent mpg. Good to see that from a 6 pot petrol.

That's impressive mpg figures.
Is there any problems or disadvantages of the 340? From the comments on here, it really does sound the best all round performer! I thought my 330d was good.....but now thinking of 340. Damn this forum!!!!!!!! |

For me, I dont do big miles and i love the noise and drama of a petrol engine and when i ordered the 330d and 335d were more expensive (monthly) than the 40i so that negated a chunk of the extra fuel cost. this forum is a dangerous place though!

I managed about 44mpg last week on a run from Manchester to Bristol, helped I suppose by traffic and the many 50mph sections with average speed cameras. Very pleased with that.

Wow, that is impressive. I was amazed with a recent trip from Tring to Dorset whiere I averaged 41.6mpg over 129 miles.
This engine is frankly voodoo on long trips...short trips and foot down not so great but never seen less than 20mpg. |

That's impressive.
I manage less than that in my 335xd. So you're saying I should consider chopping mine in for a 340 as I would save money !!

The better halfs 118i is only averaging 35mpg over 8k so these figures are unbelieable. It does kinda negate the point of buying the 6pot petrol though to drive it like Miss Daisy.

First 1000 miles or so for me saw a 37/38mpg average overall.
Mostly long runs in cruise mode with some short work commutes and then nipping into Manchester a few times. Very typical of my last few years motoring so I left the fuelly stats in my sig to compare 330d to 340i...

That's really decent for such a powerful car!
In my 320i, i normally get around 34 MPG or 38 on a long motorway trip! Not the 42.3 that's quoted on paper

I'm averaging 27mpg with the MPPK on the 340i driving most of the time using the flappy paddles. Very enthusiastically. Sure I can get close to 40ish on a big run
I was previously getting 29mpg on stock.

Over 45mpg from an excellent 3 litre petrol when our roads spoil a pacey run. It's welcome compensation of putting up with average speed cameras set at 50mph.
Good post. |

Best trip so far for me (440i) was just over 43mpg on a quiet 100 mile return run from Heathrow, that's on a car with less than 700 miles on the clock at the time - pretty impressive.
