Tire rotation or no?
I have 20k on my xdrive bmw does not mention rotation at dealer? Every other car I've had frt or real wheel drive recommends at 10k to do it. I know it's more critical on frt wheel drive because of torque and steering but it should still be done on xdrive?

I'd recommend rotation but keep in mind some tires are directional. If they are you can move a front to back or back to front only on the same side of the car. You can't switch sides or the tread will be reversed

This is a very often discussed subject; please search "tire rotation" to find some threads (here, the e90post forums, and also bimmerfest.)
BMW doesn't recommend it (it's in the manual ). But they do say you can do it (also in the manual). Many people rotate; no big deal either way. |

If your setup is square then rotating is fine. Much better to do it every 10k kms than 20k.

Used to do it myself in the Audi's, but don't have a jack now so guess I'll borough one.
Probably every 7-8k miles.

woa, your tires last 20K? I'm lucky if I get 10K out of my rears, 15K front. I'm RWD on non RFT PSS and they seem to wear out just as quickly as my stock Potenza RFTs... Anyway, when I had a 328Xi, I rotated my square set-up every 6K-8K// I got about 25K out of those.

I asked the dealership at my first oil change about rotating the tires and was told that it is unnecessary on the xdrive fwiw

Rotating depends on the setup of the car. With a square tire setup (all four tires\wheels are identical) it makes sense. I would normally do diagonal rotations. If\when you do rotations its always a good idea to do a balance as well.
With a staggered setup found on the M Sport models, rotating is generally a bit different. If your tires are NOT directional, side to side roation is all you can do. If your tires ARE directional you're pretty much stuck, unless you have the tires removed from the wheels and remounted. |
