I also do not get an audible alert for messages..in fact any texting I receive on my phone is silent as well when im connected via BT.

It's a relief to know I'm not the only one that doesn't get an audible notification from the car when a new text arrives. This is really a shame of sorts. Maybe with iOS 7 it will be resolved. As a matter of interest. I paired my IPhone 4S with a Bury cradle and also no sound for SMS. Any comments with anyone with another phone that is not apple and if the car does give an alert? Wondering if its only an iPhone issue

I sometimes get the new message ping but it's very random. I can't seem to reproduce settings that make it work consistently but hasn't been a bother to me personally

Just picked up my new F30 328i with the extended bluetooth and after reading all these replies and trying to get my email/SMS to work I called the dealer and they advised this functionality wasn't available in Australia? Am I missing something, or is this a case of a bit of "luck" if your car has been enabled?

So...without the email/SMS, it's $500 just for audio streaming? Seems a bit rich...

Any advice?

check your bluetooth setup on the phone. In iphone you have to activate notification within both bluetooth settings and Notification settings for sms and email separately to show last 5 messages.

I also receive text messages on my iDrive, have enhanced bt. I keep my phone on silent - always - but I know that the message tone should play through the car stereo provided you're streaming music from the phone and it's not on silent.

Also I'm using iOS 7 and can confirm it doesn't change anything in this regard, unless they add or alter something between now and the final release later this year.
