wheel/tire insurance

So my dealer is offering a 3 year deal for 729 covers tires and wheels. I was planning on taking off the rub flats and getting some pilot sports. But I'm not sure if 730 extra is worth it how much are you guys paying. The only thing I worry about is bending the wheel as they are the 19s.

If you're not planning on running the OEM tires then it's probably pointless even at that price.

You'd have to trash 2 wheels to get to the point where that makes much sense.

A few people have claimed they've trashed enough tires/wheels where it is worth it, but you'd probably be better off just getting a Tire Rack road hazard warranty on your new tires for under $100.

Its usually never worth it unless you want to stick with OEM Tires, But like you said if you are going with PSS I wouldn't even bother.

Plus you can usually get a decent price for used OEM wheels on the forums here, lots of people will be switching out their wheels.

Yeah i figured that thought i would see what you guys would say. I'll get the PSS after 5-6k on the run flats and put the run flats back on when the PSS wear out.

I've heard the dealership wheel and tire insurance varies. I paid $1300 for 3-years this go around. Some insurance will only replace the wheel if it does not hold air and all they will do is straighten it (but the wheel is never right). Tire replacement requires a dozen photos and pre-approval for replacement. The coverage I got this time includes replacement for bent wheels, no deductable, and no pre-approvals required. Last car I replaced 2 wheels and 3 tires - and on 19" staggered sports it was worth having the insurance.
