November production new navigation?

My car car started production on the 13th of November. Does anyone know if I will be getting the updated navigation with my build? I heard they were starting this November to be installed but my dealer couldn't give me a definitive answer.

The new Navigation Professional system along with the upgraded processor and other hardware is available now on the 2013 F30 Active Hybrid. It will not be available on the regular F30 models sold in the United States until the 2014 model year. Production begins on the 2014 model year F30 in July 2013.

Would your source be a dealer in, say a non-US country?

Again, this is neither confirmed or denied as the car was supposed to get the new Nav as of Nov 1st. It could very well be produced with the new system. No one is sure as there isnt an official bulletin.

OMG ... here we go again.... hold on to that hope guys ...

North American F30's WILL NOT HAVE THE NEW NAV!!! LET IT GO! Don't you think someone in marketing at some point would have let the dealers know so that they have something "new" to leverage to sell more cars???? The cars have already been produced, and you're still hoping that BMW is keeping this one a secret (some big conspiracy), so that new owners receive a surprise gift for Christmas????

Martin,

Has BMW ever made running changes to any car? If you recall they actually RAN out of non Nav versions of IDRIVE for the 535i and mid stream gave the Nav as a no cost feature. True, its a bit of hopeful thinking but if the old Nav system runs out, which it will, won't the new one be used?

You're reaching here. Sorry.

You are more or less (indirectly) agreeing w/ me in that BMW would have announced something at this point. Your only real "hope" now lies in a supply shortage. In theory ... anything is possible. That said, maybe they'll run out of F30s completely, and you'll end up w/ a 5 Series instead. One can hope.

(PS - I'm not trying to be a prick - I'm just trying to lay the facts out on the table for other readers. This falsified hope leads to misinformation being spread.)

I take no offense and you are not being a prick. But come 2014 this new Nav will be in the car. It just stinks that it could be in it now, since its alread in the 5, 7 and Active Hybrid 335i. Makes you think it was a mistake on our end to even talk about it knowing its a 2014 option. yet 5 series peeps continue to laud it and praise it for its speed and visual excellence. Thats what we get on second production model runs. Not quite perfected cars. I get it, I just wish it were another truth.

Anyone think there will be a software upgrade you could pay for? Or is the whole system going to be 100% different and we won't be able to upgrade to the newest software?

I'd figure it'd be just like the iPhone, when the new one comes out, everyone with the older phone gets newer software but certain functions are disabled because it requires the upgraded hardware to run.

The new system is a completely different unit, with a 1GHZ (vs our current 600mhz) processor. Also a dedicated graphics chip. Someone here will have to be the first retrofit dummy

Nope, it's very different hardware-wise. As mentioned above.

I wouldn't expect that BMW marketing would feel compelled to tout this feature upgrade. After all, there is a large inventory of inventory on the dealer lots that does not have the new nav, and anything BMW does to talk up the new nav would be bad for current business.

I don't know how long it takes for most dealers to turn over the majority of their inventory, but I would have to guess at least two months. That means BMW and their dealers wouldn't have incentive to talk up this upgrade until sometime after February, by which point the majority of their inventory would feature the upgraded nav.

I agree with the OP, all hope is not lost, although I also agree with you that based on the information we have so far it's definitely not likely that we'll see an upgrade this model year.

For what it's worth, a couple of months ago when I was aggressively investigating this, I ultimately got an email from my CA in which BMWNA corporate confirmed that the NA market was not getting the new nav.

Sucks, but there it is. Fortunately, with nothing to hold me back, I placed my order and should be receiving my car at the end of the month!

Wow...those are some pretty nice hardware upgrades. Brings it into borderline pc specs.

OK, I'll play devils advocate and say why do you need those kind of upgrades??? Are you really going to be multitasking or launching software other than the included stuff? People gonna run PS2 emulators on their cars!?!? Admittedly I haven't read all the details of the updates beyond the improved navigation look.

I for one would never want to deal with software updates on a car computer...it's bad enough dealing with android and ios upgrades, but on a car?? You want it to work like advertised, nothing more nothing less. IMO the biggest area of improvement would have to be UI/integration within the car itself.

The extra hard drive size is great though!

Well you have to put it in perspective. First, BMW has to keep up with features offered by competitors, apps and such. That type of integration needs processing power. Second, these Nav systems typically have 5 year lifespans before they appear dated. The current system was introduced for MY2009, and surely was in development for 1-2 years prior. Several MY2013 and MY2014 cars will still use the current system, so they got a solid 5 years out of it. Now, with the new system, they have to build it fast enough now to support 5 more years of use/applications.

I've updated the software on my '12 M3, it was painless.

If you want to see the new iDrive in action, here is a video http://www.wired.com/autopia/2012/05/bmw-idrive-4x/

If you're familiar with the current-gen system, you'll immediately notice the increase speed based on user input, as well as more detail in the maps.

Sales training video on BMWNA dealer system and in this video they have a Q&A about the new Nav. The video narrators discuss the internet forum posts talking about the new Nav and respond saying that no other NA cars will get the new Nav "this year".

End of story! Sorry.
