Larger intercooler and remap - don’t know official gains but most have seen 300bhp on the Dyno. I think you also have to upgrade to the M performance brakes at the same time if you don’t already have the blue M sport brakes.

The ACS upgrade for mine is £3.2k, gives you 360hp and 690 torques. Fully guaranteed for 3 years on engine and drivetrain. Serious wedge though.

Yes and that’s only for the tuning box which i believe is basically a steinbauer one.
If you wanted the intercooler as well, that’s an extra £1k on top!

Didn't Chris Harris test one of those against an M135i and conclude the BMW was the better option? Appreciate the RS3 has had a revamp since then but by the same token the M135i has morphed into the M140i and supposedly gained some chassis tweaks along the way.

Guess the answer is to have test drives and see which you prefer but I'd have thought post-discounts a decent spec RS3 could end-up closer on price to an M3 than an M140i?

S4, good PCH deals on them right now if you don't feel the need to add extras to the standard spec. 2 years, 10K p/a can be had for around £10.5K total

"But they still give the win to the Audi RS3. It’s still fun to drive but it’s a far better performance hatch. It’s also better in bad conditions and if you’ve ever heard that five-cylinder noise in person you’d know it sounds better. The M140i is a great car and it’s still great fun but it’s just not enough to keep up with the mega-fast Audi RS3."

Fair enough, they have a different opinion from Mr Harris! However, in terms of money I'd have thought the Golf R is actually more comparable to the M140i? Isn't a half decent spec RS3 going to be pushing mid-40's even after a discount and, while it will no doubt be worth more after 2 or 3 years, won't the monthly on a PCP still be quite a bit higher than for an M140i?

you deffo right here - if money wasn't an object then RS3 is the car you want. It will considerably more expensive than M140!

I was working on principle that it was more than a standard 3 series but less than an M3 - if latter is an option but a push then the RS3 may be a more comfortable option financially

It has 4 wheel drive - OP is in scotland and chose awd last time

It sounds immense

It is insanely fast

It has enough space to perform family duties if needed - with kids you never know when both cars have to be decently practical

It has a nice quality interior and understated looks - go without too much show

did i mention the noise?

and the speed?

Can certainly see the appeal of the RS3 and if the OP is prepared to extend his budget beyond the level of an M140i/Golf R - which it sounds like he might - it's definitely an option worth considering. I know it's not for everyone but personally I like the combination of fast and (relatively!) understated....

Thanks - some really useful and relevant points there. Plenty for me to consider - will try and get some rest drives - certainly not a bad problem to have!!!

Just added another option. After people highlighting 4 wheel drive....wondering now about C43. But MB not known for giving good finance offers on these cars.

Options so far....

1. Buy 330d xdrive at end of PCP in April and probably add MPPK if it will add to enjoyment

2. 340 (maybe with MPPK)

3. 140

4. Golf R

5. Dig into savings, sell one of wife’s kidneys and get M3. Finding this hard to justify in terms of extra £, will it be ok for daily commute and will I ever be able to use its full potential.

Option 1 would see me free from PCPs, all others would be new finance agreement.

I know this is always dangerous - but any views / opinions?

Thanks
M2 no deposit and £599 or M4 CP £729?
