A report into vulnerable, exploited, missing and trafficked (VEMT) young people highlighted how this operation responded to intelligence of Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) activity in car washes in Hartlepool.

Police and other agencies, including immigration, searched five car washes simultaneously and found a secret room with beds. Immigrants with no right to work in the UK were also found, and two car washes paid civil penalties of around £40,000.

In response to a Freedom of Information request, Cleveland Police said the operation was to “assess legal and regulatory compliance” and was used as a “disruption tactic in response to a national and local intelligence picture”.

Secret beds hidden in car washes, takeaway workers singling out vulnerable girls to exploit, and organised drugs and alcohol parties.

The scale of child sexual exploitation (CSE) on Teesside can today be revealed.

The Gazette can lift the lid on the trade in Teesside’s youngsters, drawing from public reports and new details sourced using Freedom of Information laws.

The information draws a devastating conclusion that “sexual exploitation happened in Teesside across every community and from all social backgrounds.”

There is a connection between exploitation and Asian males, “including those from South Asia and Iraq/Kurdistan”, according to one of the reports. Takeaway workers or owners, and men working in car washes, were reported to be singling out girls, some who were leaving the care system.

This type of exploitation is known as the ‘boyfriend model’ - in which girls and young women are deceived into believing they are in love.

But in reality, the females - predominantly white British - are exploited and in some reports, have been passed around between other groups of men.

Like I said all of them should be closed.
I have never seen the amount these car washes appear so suddenly over the last few years.
I have never used one and never will.

I totally agree. I was glad it did close to be honest. Only lazy people use them anyway, how hard is it to wash your own car?

People coming here illegally obviously have no respect for the rules of this country and in my opinion are more likely to resort to criminal activity with no legitimate way of earning. Perhaps the abuse and exploitation of women is just engrained in their culture.
