M Sport brakes to the rescue

I picked up my 340 in Sarasota FL and started on the 1200 mile trip back home. Just after taking off, I'm in the left lane on the interstate doing 80. Up ahead in the middle lane is a car that slowly drifts over into my lane and then abruptly spins out, stopping in the left lane/shoulder at a 45 facing towards me! I slam the brakes but I was so close that I'm thinking there's no way and the car I've had for 30 minutes is about to be totaled. But no! The BBK that came with the tracking package stopped the car with about 5 feet to spare! Pretty amazing stuff and I get to tell the story with a happy ending.

Wow, and yes great brakes can save lives! Those M brakes are excellent. Did you get the car from the dealer or private?

Nice work, wth my luck I'd have stopped five feet short and then been creamed by a Semi. My thinking on the M brakes was simple, fast car needs good brakes so that box got checked. Glad you get to enjoy your new car!

Used car dealer. All wheel drive car with cold weather package sitting in Florida (a Canadian car the dealer bought it at auction). It was unsold for 3 months - go figure- so they offered it at an attractive price.

sometimes it honestly just makes more sense to swerve around. especially if someone is following close behind and have brakes no match for M performance.. haha. but anyways good job and glad everyone is safe.

be careful out there!

The car was so close I didn't have time to see if I could change lanes. But yes, that's the best alternative.

You illustrated part of the reason I got my brembos
Even if it only improved braking by 5 feet over standard.. sometimes thats the difference
Glad you were ok

Great story!

Not checking the M brake box when I bought my f36 is a daily regret. Good breaks and good tires are the basics for performance (and saving lives) but I guess I didn't know that then or was so mezmorized by the awesomeness of all-else on the car on the lot that I didn't care. For those with m brakes, congrats and smart move. Only option I missed that I wish I hadn't.

How much would it cost to get m brakes after the fact? I know it's a lot, but anyone experience any good deals there out the door?

I don't think you can add on M Sport brakes after it has been made. Unless you can get some used ones.
You would have to purchase M Performance brakes which are quite expensive. $4000-4500 AUD installed here in Australia.

In reality though, if it saves a life of the driver or the car. It's worth it.

yeah.... but ONLY if you are 100% sure that you have a clear lane to swerve to
too often, swerving ends up causing a separate crash and it just ends up being your fault
so it's always good to check mirrors and be situationally aware of your surroundings as you're driving

of course.. obviously best not to get other drivers involved. I have my mirrors setup so I dont see the sides of my car and I have NO blind spot. I use my mirrors very often just like everybody should.. haha.

I've also had instances where I suddenly braked with the brembos but watched in horror at the braking attempt of the guy behind me
but the bottom line is better to be rear ended than frontal collision
and better that you have the brakes to stop suddenly to avoid hitting someone on the streets etc.. id rather be in more control than not
and the brembos do improve braking distance

You can thank the tires more so than the brakes. I have the M Sport Brakes, but it's the tires that will reduce your stopping distance.

The M Sport Brakes are only useful when you're tracking your car. For street driving, regular brakes are sufficient since they have the ability to lock up your tires.
