Yeah that's pretty much the technique. Grab the edges with your fingertips and pull.

you don't have to take the glass off first?

You take the glass off first. check for youtube videos. I had to replace part of my mirror and wasn't sure where to start. You need to get a tool under the glass and pry it off. It sounds like a recipe for broken glass but it did work out fine. Once the glass it removed you can see the plastic tabs you need to unlatch. Once you release those the cover just simply pulls off. New one snaps into place and glass pushes back on.

Try this youtube video. It shows how to get under the glass and safely pry it off. Once you see how it is done it is easy enough to do. The cover itself has to be loosened from the front...if you tried to pry the cover off you will break the clips that hold it in place.

This should be fairly easy to do as you just hold the cover part and pry on it a bit til it comes off.. Try to be patient but it shouldnt break. And no, you don't have to take the glass part off. Just like people above said!

Only need to take glass off if your carbon ones are BMW M performance they screw in from inside. Otherwise truly just rip and replace.

There are clips on the cover though! If you pry off the cover without undoing these clips you will break the clip! The only way to get at clip is to remove the glass first. Very easy to do. Why would you pry the cover without undoing the clips first??? The clip will break or worse you will break the plastic tab the clip inserts into. Obviously if you are replacing the cover then you don't care about it but if you break the frame then you have more things to replace! If those tabs on the frame are broken then the new carbon covers will never sit properly.

heres what you do. squeeze your fingers underneath the plastic seal and force it up abit and then pull the cover back but slighty towards the car. this should release it, it will take some force

I have tried this and many people have damaged their mirror doing this way.

I managed to do it without removing the mirror, if you angle your mirror all the way down you will see the clips inside all you need is two screw drivers and push the clips in and then you can pull on the side closest to the car.

this works much better as I know I am not going to break anything at all.

When I get home I will take a few pics to show you guys, I found this was is the best way if you do not want to risk breaking the mirror.

Finally installed. All you have to do is put your nails and fingers between the mirror cover and the mirror closest to the car. And then just yank it off.

One of the cf mirrors fits perfectly but the other one is a bit loose on the side closest to the car. I took it off and tried installing again but same issue. Any tips?
I don't really mind because it looks fine but just in case it's bad for water to get in there so wondering it's is ok

I tried the Kies Motorsports method and the mirror didn't budge at all and finally the glass cracked, I think it doesn't work on newer cars with strongly held tabs or maybe it's easier on an F30. Just yanking the caps off using this guy's method worked and no tabs broken! Just try this, it's super easy

Update: On replacing the mirror I found it easier to go about it from the left edge(in case of driver side), it worked way better than trying to pry it out from the bottom.

I've mentioned his method just above your post, lol.
I tried the same method, broke my glass, as did a number of other guys who tried it. It pops out so easily for him, probably tried it a few times and it had loosened up a bit. If it is the first time then the tabs might be tight. The easiest and safest way is to turn the mirror all the way inside/outside/up/down and release the tabs, you can see them through the gap. Also, after you pull it a bit out on the inner lower corner. Kinda hard to explain

People that break their mirror using that method used too SMALL of a trim removal tool.

I use the largest possible.....much larger than in that video, to spread the stress pressure further out along the Mirror.

Simple science and math.

I used the largest one that was in the trim removal set, maybe it was still a bit small. I agree, could have used a bigger and thicker one.
