Challenge 3.5" catless downpipe + BMS Stage 1

Hey guys,

For those of you who have experience, will I have CEL running this DP? I heard only the JB4 automatically clears these codes.

Also, will I see a performance/sound difference with my setup, or do I need to go JB4 to use this?

Thanks in advance!

I recently installed a catless DP. Every 75-100 miles (or so it seems) your CEL will reappear if you clear it. I even tried a spark plug anti-fouler but the opening may be too large.

Yes, a JB4 will automatically clear your CEL.

Butt dyno, I think there's a small increase even w/o a tune. Sound, yeah, it's pretty awesome. Like others have said, it's a pretty well insulated cabin so roll down your windows for the full effect.

JB4 is not entirely necessary but w/o it you'll have the CEL and won't be able to fully utilize the freer flowing exhaust.

I have the ability to clear CEL with my laptop, but obviously it will be easier using Jb4.

Any other way around this, I'm assuming a catless DP will for sure pull a CEL.

BMS Stage 1 will NOT take care of your CEL.

Major pain in the ass to clear with a laptop every 75 miles or just live with the cel until you get a JB4. It's sounding like BMS is transitioning away from the canbus posi wire taps and moving towards obdii control.

I can get the JB4, how much more difficult is it to install compared to Stage 1?

The stage 1 took 2 minutes.

Grounding the wires if you don't have proper tools can be a pain. The f30 uses special T50 Torx which is annoying to find to get under the strut. Other than should only take 10 min if you know what your doing or less.

Jb4 will automatically clear your code.
Catless DP will give your car a nice sound .
In terms of performance you will get a small performance gains. To take full advantage of the catless DP,you need a JB4.

Only the JB4 will clear the light!

IF you want to stick with the Stage1 you need something like the BMS CanFlap Module to get rid of the light.

How about putting o2 spacers? A friend of mine mentioned it to me, in order to trick the system..

I hate to say it, but Challenge is the worst company in the world to buy something from. I had their High Flow Cat too, but my core melted, they said they would warranty it so i sent it off to them....4 months ago....and have yet to get any kind of compensation or even a reply to an email.

BUT, get a JB4 and be done with it. super super easy to install. takes me 5 minutes.

My first attempt at that didn't work. I'll try a smaller opening sometime in the future but a JB4 is already in the works.

They don't work. I think I read someone who tried them and they kinda worked but once they floored the car the light came on.

My CEL lit up when I went to Eco-Pro mode for the cool down after a hard run in the twisties.

O2 spacers and defoulers typically don't work on this platform. It's hit or miss.

I'd sooner sell the BMS Stage 1 and get the JB4. Then you can unlock all the power and get rid of the CEL.
