Help! 435 written off
Hi guys, Due to unforeseen circumstances my beloved 435 has been written off. To cut a long story short I am in a bit of a bind here. Car is financed and as it stands I am going to lose a lot of money. As you can see from the pics, it is a complete write off and I want to salvage as much money as I can from the remains. I've asked the holding yard where the car is stationed to source me some buyers from wreckers etc and one of my friends has suggested placing the remains on eBay to see if I get any takers. I desperately need some advice on what is the best way to get some money back for the remains via whatever means and how much money I can get for it. I know the photos don't cover every angle, can provide more upon request. The car is literally only 3 months old with 6000km's on the clock, engine still starts. |

Sorry to hear.
Did you not have insurance? Or did you have insurance but insufficient coverage? If you have insurance its my understanding that the insurance company will own the car and pay you whatever amount was agreed. Maybe you have new for old? If no insurance then I'm sorry to hear. you can attempt to sell the parts privately on ebay or here. Quote:

How are the seats ? Sport seats & in Oyster as well I wonder if I can retrofit it into my 328i in Oyster leather as well.
What price would you be looking at for the seats ? Last edited by knightsabers; 09-23-2014 at 08:44 AM.. |

... can I ask why you drove it around for 3 months without any insurance?
The coupe's slide and foldable seats in a sedan could be interesting |

Indeed coupe seats in a sedan, would be interesting to see if it's a direct bolt on as well.
Wow Didn't realize there was no insurance, especially on a 120K + car. That's sad to hear and must sting a lot since it's on finance. Last edited by knightsabers; 09-23-2014 at 08:24 PM.. |

That's a sore sight. Feel sorry for you.
Regarding not having an insurance, I am puzzled. I thought you will need an insurance cover to drive the car out from the dealership? Your financial provider and dealer should not allow you to without an insurance? I am curious to know why you didn't get an insurance for your car. You paid a premium for your custom plate "MY 435" but not willing to spend on the insurance? Were you at fault in the accident? |

Maybe driver at the time isn't listed on the insurance policy? Some strict policies don't cover unnamed drivers and or those under a certain age...
The engine and transmission must be one of the most valuable parts in this case. |

I sold my last wreck at pickles auctions - You can set a reserve price, and they take a fee to auction it off. I got more than I expected.
Good luck.

Holy Sh!t ... I'm sure there's a time for all the questions regarding the 'lack of insurance' ... for those unaware, I believe getting finance only requires you to have a cover note from the insurer (intent to have insurance I guess) to have finance approved. Once finance is approved, you don't necessarily have to follow through with the insurance cover.
Truly a sad situation to come across. Really don't have much advice other than to part it out (if possible) or try to sell it off at auctions (as is, again if possible) Would be keen to get updates on how you proceed, Good luck Last edited by Spikey; 09-23-2014 at 10:49 PM.. |

sorry to hear that, but i would definitely insure any car under no circumstances. Sxit happens and i'm on GIO Platinum, new car replacement for $1500! and when i had my car picked up last year, i have my agreed value with GIO Platinum (knowing the pain of the M Sport version is not on the pre-definied list for all insurers) and have every items listed which is way above the max level (this year seems to be better, just optioned with everything covered).
at least everyone seems to be ok, which is more important. i have my tyre insurance and who would have thought i have to claim 4 tyres within 12 months from BMW tyre insurance too...

I feel for OP (ignoring the lack of insurance part) as this is going to be a substantial financial burden unless the driver of his car was not at fault and the OP can recoup the loss from someone else. Either way it is not going to be fun.

On the bright side, BMW saved your life had it been another brand maybe the result may not have been so fortunate. Testament to it's build quality, judging from the impact on the drivers side.

Thanks for all the replies above...
I guess I need to clear things up. The car was insured comprehensively. I was t boned at an intersection by another vehicle, not at fault. Police was close by at hand I was tested minor DUI hence the lack of coverage. 20/20 hindsight none of this would've happened but as it stands I need to do what I can. So you can see I'm in a bit of a pickle the only way to get money back is through civil litigation which is a costly and time consuming process; appreciate all the help guys |
