Nice.

I went with the Rho-Plate and just installed it this weekend, looks like it's a very similar design principle to that one, except the Rho uses only 3 attachments to the plate holder not 4. Still, solid. I know some people are like just put the plate on the center, the side look of the tow mounts look weird, whatever. I love the clean front end look, and I can always remove the plate holder for photos and maintain that clean look.

I've read good things about the Rho-Plate.

This is the first car I've mounted the front plate off-center. I'm not a huge fan of off-center license plates, but I really didn't want to drill the bumper anywhere. This one is very easy to remove when I don't want/need to run the front plate.

When I upgrade my bumper I'm getting that release.

Congrats on your wagon. In the past 2yrs I've fallen in love with them and will definitely get one in the future.

It was an overcast day so I removed the roof rack, cleaned up the car, and took some photos:

As previously mentioned, I can take the roof rack off fully assembled and hang it on the garage wall. This makes removal and installation quick and easy:

I started looking at VMR V706s this morning.

I kind of wish VMR V706s came in 18s though. The 19s look fantastic, but I'm concerned about harsher ride quality due to the lower profile tires.

Once the stock tires wear out I may consider replacing the wheels (because I'll be buying new tires at that point anyway).

I've been a bit of a "wheel whore" with my previous cars. Sometimes I'd have 4 sets of wheels and tires at a time. Summer set, winter set, track set, stock set.

As for the suspension, I'm going to leave it stock. Lower certainly looks better than stock, but I like the ride quality and handling of the stock DHP setup currently on the car.

Here is a neat (and cheap) way to display digital gauges in your car. I used it in my Subaru for a number of years and it also works well with my BMW.

I'm using the Android Torque application ($5 app) along with an ELM327 Bluetooth OBDII adapter ($25 adapter) and of course my Android phone (Galaxy S5). The Torque application allows you to create digital gauges of the MANY parameters that your ECU sees. It also allows you to data-log the ECU for tuning purposes. You can also check and clear CELs with it. It's a very useful tool for $5.

The adapter:

Here's the setup form the Subaru:

I dropped by Katie's Cars and Coffee this morning (Great Falls, VA). Awesome bunch of cars as usual. I parked next to a white CTS V wagon and an M5.

BMW Cross Bars

I picked up a set of BMW cross bars for my F31. I've run Thule racks on my previous cars, so I already have a pair of Thule Peloton bike trays, a pair of wheel-on mounts (not yet installed in the pictures), a roof box, and other accessories. The BMW cross bars can be had for $200, which is a great deal compared to ~$500 for a set of Thule cross bars and foot adapters.

The BMW cross bars have a wider track than the "normal" Thule cross bars. To make my existing Thule components work on the BMW cross bars, I picked up 6 grade 8 washers from Home depot to slide over the Thule T-Bolts. Now everything bolts up perfectly and is secure. There is plenty of thread engagement left on the T-Bolts.

I only run the roof rack when needed. After loosening all 4 corner mounts, the whole rack comes off as one assembly, which I store via hanging on a wall in the garage. At some point I may pick up a fairing.

Beautiful wagon! We finally got ours back from Germany (ED) and I've ordered the factory rack/bars. Forgive me for being dense but are the washers necessary for your box as well? I'll be picking up a Thule Sonic M box at the REI sale next week but am having a hell of a time figuring out how/if the box will attach to the rails. I assumed it would work but now I'm wondering...

Any thoughts/help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the Thule Sonic M (used to be labeled L but they changed it for some reason) that I picked up from REI during the members sale, can't beat 25% off. Once you have the crossbars on, you'll just adjust the Thule feet from inside the box to match up with the crossbars and then tighten them down until they click. It's a really simple setup and works well. I'm still trying to find out the max speed the carrier is rated at though, but I've had no issues up to 90 mph with mine.
