You can select Leatherette with Heated front seats, to get heated rear seats you need to get Leather. I got leatherette because I cannot justify paying $1500 for them, like said above, I would rather spend that money to subsidize the tech package or add the performance exhaust.

Have you driven either one?
The point was if you prefer leather, fine, but you don't have to knock on people who would rather have the leatherette instead. I lot of people have had both and say that the leatherette is more durable and doesn't require much care. |

Just got my car last night, I went with leatherette & front heated seats, though I struggled with the choice. In the end, I decided I'd rather spend the money on HK and a moonroof. Would I prefer to have leather? Probably; it feels/smells a little nicer, though the leatherette will be much more hard-wearing. I'd also prefer to have a new M5, but for now, I love my car, and am absolutely happy with how I've optioned it.
Point is, unless you buy/lease a new car every two years, if you think you're going to second guess yourself about skipping an option you should probably just find a way to fit it into your budget. Otherwise, you'll never be 100% happy with what you've got. |

Had leatherette on the 06 passat and it was def low maintenance...went with the leather/cwp combo and so far love it. We'll see over the long haul...also, the tan leather in my 93 325is is still holding up good for a 20 year old Cow ass.

I am very happy with the leatherette and heated front seats. i left off the leather to keep the cost down and order other options.

If vinyl degrades you have no recourse but to replace it. Leather is easily reconditioned. The bottom line is that you can't universally say that one is better than the other. Geographic location, care, where the vehicle is parked all way very heavily on the durability of the upholstery. |

I had heated leatherette seats in my E46 325i.
They were great. Leatherette holds up better over time vs leather. After 3yrs of use the leatherette looked like new. In my 135i I had leather and after only 2.5yrs it started showing light signs of wear on the left thigh and left upper bolster, from entry and exit. The leather in the 1 and 3 series is ok, nothing special, but imo and experience it doesn't hold up as one would expect in a "premium" automobile. As for leather "breathing" better, I haven't felt it to any appreciable extent. Whatever they coat the leather with seems to remove or reduce any inherent breathability of leather. Maybe if it were in a more natural state it would breathe better, but then it likely be even less durable than it is. 'Ette doesn't require any maintenance, whereas leather does respond to a good cleaning and conditioning at least once a year. Still it didn't help my leather from showing signs of wear in my 135i, which has the same quality leather as the 3 series. I have leather in my 335i Msport. I don't expect it to wear any better than the 135i's leather. It feels pretty much like the same stuff. Leather wears in a bit better over time vs leatherette, but 'ette also wears in a bit over time feeling like it has a bit more give than when new. Great stuff. |

Although, I did go ahead and place the order this past saturday for a 335i Xdrive with Leather. Only reason I got leather was because I wanted to get Cold weather package.
