Screw in tire (1 week old car)

Car has 200km's and just noticed a screw in the tire. Going to dealer tomorrow will see what they say. Any idea if there is a sort of tire manufacture warranty? Maybe the dealer can patch it? Or should I push for a new replacement tire? I don't have the tire protection plan.

Why are they gonna pay for it? Unless it was there on delivery, just sounds like horrible luck. Pretty sure run flats have different rules on how they can be patched. Sorry, I know it sucks.

I went through this about 1 month after I bought the car. I had a small nail in the tire that had a slow leak. Dealer wouldn't touch it and I found it plugged against recommendation. I didn't buy the warranty. I was told the dealer won't repair it since they cannot guarantee if the tire was driven while flat thus compromising the sidewall. Mine was not driven flat and I have had over 10,000 trouble free miles since plugging. Also, the nail was in a tiny nook between a sipe which hid the plug after wearing down. I couldn't find it about a month ago after the tire wore down some more despite knowing where it is.

It's tough to find people to plug run flats though. Replacement is recommended but it sucks dropping $350 on a new tire with a few hundred miles on it.

This is absolutely wrong. The DEALER won't patch/plug it, but most independent shops will do it. The proper way is to break it off the rim to inspect the inner sidewall to see if it's damaged, in which case it must be replaced.

RFT CAN be patched the exact same way a non RFT can be. Difference is that tire OEM's tell dealers not to patch them because they don't know how many miles the driver drove on the deflated tire.

So, find a dealer that can patch it and move on (assuming its not on sidewall then you have a different issue). Just be sure to find someone with a leverless tire mounting machine so they don't destroy your wheels during r&r. Make sure they use a roller and not a shovel to break down the tire bead!

FYI, 95% of tire shops don't have leverless mounting machines (your BMW dealer should) but they'll try to make you feel better and say they do these type of wheels all the time. Don't believe they can r&r cleanly and not damage the lip of wheel.

My car came with a CD with tire mfr's warranties on it. I haven't looked at them, hope I never need to. I'd be surprised though if road hazards are covered. Unfortunately, brand new tires are the ones most likely to pick up a nail or a screw in the tread. Patching the hole is problem-free. On the other hand, as others noted above, if you've driven on the tire while it was flat, or if the sidewall was damaged, it needs to be replaced.

I feel your pain as I also found a nail in the tire recently. Every place I found said they can't patch the tire due to manufacturer restrictions. Even when I gave them the wink and told them my friend Andrew Jackson would supervise the repair, most mechanics looked at me as if I asked them to kick a box of puppies.

Short story long, I bought a new tire that took 6 days to arrive. Good luck. I was out $359.

Dealer will not repair it due to liability reason. It would be sensible for them to sell you a brand new rf, around $350+.

Like others said, just go to an independant shop. It takes just a couple minutes to plug the hole. If you have an ounce of do-it-yourself in ya then by a kit and plug it yourself. You can do it while it is still on the car.

as long as the sidewall wasnt punctured, you should be fine to patch it.

i could have sworn i thought i read something about a 1 year tire warranty that came from the manufacture, if the tire has no more than 2/32's wear, it will be replaced? please correct me if im wrong

just finished up. the service dept looked at it and said it was small enough to be patched. so they did, all is good again.

From my experience, the dealer generally won't touch something like this. I'm surprised that they actually offered to patch it for you, OP.
