Misaligned Cruise Control Marker?
Hey guys, I've recently noticed that whenever I use the cruise control, there's a little green marker to show what speed you've set it at. However, it seems to be a few mph behind what I actually set.
For example, I set it at 80mph, the green marker shows roughly 78mph but my speed needle points at 80mph dead on. I took it to the dealer but they claimed that this is normal. Is this true? |

First of all, I wasn't the one taking the pics. I had someone do it for me. Second of all, if you're not planning to add anything helpful, you need not waste your time in saying anything at all.

Since BMW speedos read a few MPH faster than actual, maybe the green dot represents your actual speed? So in this case the needle is reading 80 but your actual speed is more like 78. Just a guess...

Unfortunately, my HUD and Speedo both read 80.... just the cruise control marker. Also, the HUD shows that I've set the cruise speed to 80mph. It's just weird that the cruise control would tell me on the HUD that I've set the speed at 80mph but just not mark it correctly on the speedo itself.

Sure you did. Those pix look just like they were taken by someone else who, of course, wasn't interfering with your view out of the car at, ahem, 80mph.

^Guys, this is ridiculous. Leave it.
OP, this is normal behaviour. All speedometers read slightly higher than true road speed (and this is further exaggerated at higher speed) so the needle being 2/3mph over the cruise control marker/set speed is normal and you have no issues. Whatever you set your cruise control to (80mph say) - you will do this speed with your needle reading somewhere around 82mph.

Maybe I'm missing something...maybe I'm no longer a perfectionist...But when I opened this thread I figured the marker would be off any sort of significant amount...then I saw the pictures... (since there is no face palm face - I chose the next best thing)

Lol, I do realize it's a small amount that it's off. I never said it was off by a whole lot. In my defense though, the pic makes it seem closer than it really is It is actually pretty visible that it's off if looking dead on. I don't really mind if this is normal for the F30, but it's just weird that everything else tells me I've set it at 80mph except for that green marker. |

Call it post-purchase rationalization or whatever you will, but if it tracks the speed you set it to...why worry? Just think of it as establishing a lower bound for your needle
With all due respect, it must be a real pain in the ass to deal with us owners...

But to the OP I think what he's wanting to know is if anyone else is having the same issue, not if he's being OCD or speeding or picky or who cares... I'll try to remember to try my cruise on the way home and see if it does that too.
