I'll have to say the 335i had given me a TON of headaches early on (here comes a Jinx), but after the first year pains, I haven't been back into the shop for almost 6 months - and the last few visits were for the PPK and other goodies.
Next visit will be dedicated to the LSD....it honestly depends on the dealer. My dealer is top ten in the US for BMW, and has proven it as such... I'd take a Cayman S any day though...

.....the cost to own and maintain a 335 far exceeds that of owning a Hyundai Genisis coupe.........whats your point? |

Sorry, but I have zero interest in anything made by Porsche. Nice cars, but not my cup of tea anymore.

I had an 07' Boxster that I used as my daily driver for 4 years, right up until I had to start taking my son to school. It was the most reliable car I've had and can't wait till my son's out of the child booster seat so I can get another!

OP I own a 2010 911 and have owned several P-Cars, you will not be disappointed with a Cayman S, personally I would go with the Boxster S (I still do not know why people pay more for a hardtop), but that is personal choice. If you can get over how much Porsche Charges for Options the rest is all up hill. They are outstanding cars with little or no known issues, the fit/finish is Outstanding, as is the reliability.
Be prepared to get hooked when entering the P-Car world, this will more than likely be one of many you will own. GO check out Planet 9 forums, a lot of Boxster/Cayman action over there. |

I've owned several BMW and Porsches. Currently '11 M3 E93, '11 328XiT and '11 C4S (past includes 330, 335, E46 M3, 997TT, Boxster, 997 Targa 4S). We also have a '10 R8
I have to say, both manufacturers have been uber reliable and maintenance free. However the R8 has had more service appointments - mostly electrical and to my amazement, fit and finish. The new 991 is both sports and luxury combined into one. It's an amazing ride, performance is stellar and has all the luxury you'll ever need as daily driver or long distance trips. My '11 C4S is great as a daily or long distance as well - it has PDK, adjustable dampers for either normal or track use, heated/vented seats, nav, bluetooth, AWD, etc. |

errr not sure what we are trying to compare here. An optioned cayman s can easily be 80k+, when you max out about 60k or less for a 335i. Of course its gonna be a better car.... Seems like it should be compared with a m3 or something in that range.

It's not always about price for everyone. The OP didn't ask which is better for the price, I don't recall price even being part of the post at all.

I am very sadly moving in the opposite direction having owned a 981 boxster running on 20's for the past year purly as we need a bigger car.
If I could keep the boxster I would it's been our daily driver (15,000 miles) and it's been faultless. The ride is firm but I personally think it's a dam sight better than the rest of the German makes as Porsches suspension in my mind is vastly superior it obviously helps being a lot lighter. If you can afford it go for the new GTS as there are a lot of options thrown in or alternatively look for a well spec'd demo car that's coming in as the dealers will be keen to do a deal. With out question as soon as I can justify having a second car porsche will be getting my money for sure. |

Have you thought about a used 911 (997.1 or 997.2)? It has usable back seats. I have '11 C4S as my DD and its the best of both worlds - great performance/handling but surprisingly practical. Additionally its AWD setup allows for year around use. |

Yellow mellow yes we looked long and hard but it comes down to practicalities of more boot space etc for the impending little one and the wife was it keen on the panamera.
If anything the boxster probably has better space than the 911. All round I think porsche has just upped their game on all the cars, as any one who thinks they are just stripped out drivers cars need to properly look at the latest generation. |

Interestingly, why do you say that the Boxster has better space than the 911? I've had both. The Boxster is a 2 seater with no real interior practical storage areas. It does have the front storage compartments. The 911 coupe has front storage, 2 rear seats plus the shelf behind the rear seats. I had a Targa 4S which makes the the rear storage areas more easily accessible - otherwise the C4S and Targa 4S are the same. Attached is my Targa and the other pic (w/black interior) is the C4S. I agree, the new Boxster/Cayman are great looking - especially the GTS variants Last edited by YellowMellow; 04-19-2014 at 02:39 PM.. |

Practicality aside, clearly porsche is the better car here. The question should more be like, for my next upgrade from the f30, should i get a M3 (or whatever other car in the 80k range) or a Cayman S |

4 doors in the $80K range equals S6 all day long as far as I am concerned, smokes everything in the price range. |

Not so fast, there are always the 550 engines from MB, which are great! Not to mention BMW's 550i/650i are also good options

This type of discussion will get very serious when Porsche builds the Pajun (small version of the Panamera w/o the ugly rear). I fear I may defect...

We may add a Mecan Turbo sometime in the Fall timeframe.
As I understand it from our local Porsche dealer, the drive/dynamics is closer to a 911 then either the Cayenne or Panamera |

The Macan is going to be a hell of a Car/SUV, just look at the SQ5, I was tempted to get one of those over the 335i. It blows the X3 as well as everything else in its price range away IMO. You could say the SRT Jeep beats it, thats another $10K, but also a bargain for what you get.
