Software Update/Version Blank!

Hi All,

Hopefully someone can help as Im tearing my hair out!

When I try and view the current software version, I basically get a blank... Photo attached

To download and install update, I do the following:
Access www.bmw.com/update
Entered my VIN
Downloaded the *.bin update
Formated 3 separate USB keys in FAT32(also tried NTFS)
Copied *.bin to each
Tried each USB in the USB slot in my centre console glovebox
Accessed the 'Software Update' option on 'Settings' menu in the Control Display.
The following message appeared on all occasions:
"Update on USB device not suitable for this vechile...."

I can assure you the VIN is correct.

USB interface could just mean for playing music from a phone or stick.

I believe.....

6NH Hands-free facility with USB interface wireless connection for compatible Bluetooth mobile phones (see http://www.bmw.com/bluetooth) with the vehicle, including hands-free facility. Enables convenient connection of an MP3 player, Apple iPod or USB memory stick in the vehicle. Playback of the audio files via the vehicle's audio system, operation by equipment-dependent controls (radio controls, multifunction for steering wheel) of the vehicle. Including 12 V power socket in storage compartment of armrest front

Is there anyway to reset the iDrive software(factory reset)?

Sorry, tearing hair out here...

This is exactly what Ive done on numerous USB keys, about 6 brands at this stage.
Copied *.bin from www.bmw.com/update to USB
Tried each USB in the USB slot in my centre console glovebox
Accessed the 'Software Update' option on 'Settings' menu in the Control Display.
The following message appeared on all occasions:
"Update on USB device not suitable for this vehicle...."

are you using a mac or a pc?
formatting a USB on a mac leaves relic hidden files that prevent the USB from being recognised....
if you are using a mac, try formatting in a pc. I'll see if I can remember how to remove the hidden files from a mac.
you need to run an app that deletes the Mac files on eject

I want to update the software on the iDrive as Bluetooth does not work. Teh car will not connect with any phone, tried 6 including an old Nokia I have lying around. Bluetooth was enabled on all phones.

Also, when USB is plugged into centre glovebox does not pick up mp3.

I was thinking a software update might help. Then when I try and view what software version I currently have installed, I get a blank, literally!

Using a PC. Formatted half a dozen USB's in FAT32, even tried NTFS is vain!

@teaston wasn't "taking the piss"
it was a serious question.. I'll hopefully explain

normally the "glove box" means the lockable storage bin in the passenger footwell, vs the armrest, which sits between the seats.
you have kind of given a mixed message by saying central glove box (by which I think you mean the armrest)
my old e89 z4 had a USB socket in the glove box (not the armrest) which was used for navigation updates, and I think this is what teaston was exploring.
as I (and I suspect teaston) don't have your version of idrive, I don't know if you have a different USB layout. and it may be that you have a USB port in the glove box ( but maybe not)

Ok, Thanks,
Just to be clear, all my attempts have been using the armrest USB. I have a feeling this is the correct USB as when I insert the usb with update software, I get an error as follows-

It sounds like you have a hardware fault then if nothing will work on Bluetooth or USB

Crombie;

a couple of things to try/test.

Can you save your profile to USB? In the idrive settings go to PROFILES - EXPORT and see if you can save it to the USB drive you have plugged it.

If yes - it proves that your USB stick is readable and the USB port works.

If no - either A, look for second USB port in the Glovebox as teaston says or B (if you only have the one in the Center Armrest) - your USB is fcuked.

Now, the update itself - did you get it from www.bmw.com/update ? If so, that is the American site - try getting the update form the UK site

http://www.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/topics/ow...es/update.html

I will try to export a profile after work. I tried www.bmw.com/update and http://www.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/topics/ow...es/update.html. I think both are the same but tried them separately all the same. No joy there!
