Instrument Cluster Replacement with New Original BMW

Hello All,
I recently bought a 2016 428i xDRIVE Convertible (F33) and I need to replace the cluster. A local BMW mechanic told me that he can program it/code it but that it has to be a new/original part (not used).
I just ordered the part from Braman BMW (hard to find the correct cluster) so many versions. Anyway, I ended up buying this cluster - BMW (62-10-5-A03-A26) because that one is compatible with the HUD.
Here is my question:
Can I install the cluster myself and then drive it (like that) to the mechanic? Will the car run Ok with the new cluster? I know some features might not work properly, but its only a 5 mins drive and that can save me some money on labor.
I already removed the old one to clean it (not too hard to do).
Thanks!
Lou

Yes, you can drive there without a coded gauge cluster, just expect and ignore the myriad of warning lights.

Also, If I were you I'd return the cluster you bought and use this opportunity to upgrade to a 6WB digital cluster.

Any coder can set it up for you remotely, you don't have to involve a shop at all if you're able to physically install it yourself.
