I always make an appointment for the loaner car as well as the service so you are guaranteed a BMW. Unfortunately a free slot is sometimes a week away.

Bringing my F30s into service I've usually been given a 330, 430, or X3. I got the X1 once. Not bad, it was the RWD version. Much better than a Camry and I was curious so it wasn't a problem.

With my F80 I've gotten a 330e, 4 Series GC, 4 vert, and a 530 Sport. I enjoyed the 530 for the interior, but it wasn't that fun to drive.

With my i3 I've been offered another i3 and an X3. The X3 is always pleasant. Not terribly exciting, but I like the form factor of a small SUV that handles like a sedan.

The only car I don't really like getting is a 330i. Not that it's a bad car, I've owned 2 F30's already after all. It's that a loaner F30 isn't going to be optioned the way I want it, so it's always a step down no matter what.

The Vert was probably the best loaner, since I like the top down but I'll never buy one, I can at least enjoy it for a day or so. The seats are super uncomfortable, but I like the vents behind your neck.

Id like to try a 2 series next time or a 6. I've never even seen a 6 loaner. Anyone else?

Had an x1 loaner for a month. Can't say I'd buy one, but for the money it's seemed like more bang for your buck than the 4-banger sedans. Probably pretty fun off-road with a tune. Quite a deal for the $ imo.

I've had a couple X1's when my dealer has nothing else available. I don't get why you'd buy one. People complain that the F30 lacks the true BMW character over the older E90...the X1 turns that up to 11. I just don't really understand why they exist.

In general, I'm fortunate to work with a dealer that gives me well-optioned loaners when I ask for them. I don't get stuck with a base-spec 320i or X1 very often.

Just had an X1. Very underwhelmed compared to the prior X1 driving wise. Obviously this is where the market is going. My service guy told me the X1 is like a beginner BMW. I replied, just think, the 2002 used to be the opening price point BMW and it was a true BMW.

Really made me appreciate my F31 when I got it back, but also realized this is probably my last Bimmer.

I sure in hell appreciated mine a LOT more once I got back into it. (especially the seats) I've been keeping my eye on the 2018 S4 very closely -> http://blog.caranddriver.com/354-hp-...cing-released/
