F31 No Drone Exhaust???
Hey guys - I'm thinking about upgrading the sport wagon's exhaust. I was talking to my guy today and he explained that with the wagon a lot of exhausts drone when they might not on a sedan. It kind of makes sense to me, you've basically got a large amplifying box (the car) sitting right on top of the exhaust.
Anyway - aside from the MPE which I assume would be ok, any others that you guys have had installed and can confirm no drone? Not looking for anything crazy here just OEM+ with a little more character.

I thought about the 35 but the car is very classic sleeper stealth, BSM w saddle and chrome trim. Would prefer to keep the one sided dual exit.
Have you heard the AWE in person? I was also considering Dinan but it's almost 2x the MPE price last I checked.

I have an AWE on my sedan. Sound beautiful. No drone, but ofc as you said, unsure if it drones on a wagon.

i have and auto with dinan and it drones at various low rpm under load so i do not recommend it.
if i had to do it again i'd prolly get awe black tip single side dual exit axle back, stock mid-pipe if you want it quieter. |

Thanks - will look into AWE.
Appreciate the insight on Dinan. Last thing I want to do is spend time and money on something and have it annoy me when the job is done. I've stuck with stock for 2 years for fear of just that.

I can confirm that Dinan drones around town. It's fine on the highway, but from 2-3k RPM there is some boom. Since you are local we can meet up if you want to hear it. I live in East Falls and work in Horsham.

Did you do the install yourself? I'm thinking the car needs both an exhaust and an IC at some point, I haven't messed with either myself yet. My convertible was a NIGHTMARE of a job due to all the extra bracing under the car so I happily paid to have that done.

I was also worried about drone since we have a huge echo chamber back there. MPE on my F31, and no drone. BTW, it's obnoxiously loud for the first 30 seconds after cold startup, then quiets down.

Good to know, thank you. I am leaning towards MPE - helps that we bought the car from Sun and Brian in the parts department there is top notch. A return in event of drone wouldn't be an issue, so MPE is probably the safest play.

Awesome. I can bring the E46 ZHP with Apex ARC-8 if you want to check those out, or the F23 with Bavsound and Autotecknic paddles if you wan to check out that stuff.

MPE is an easy 20 minute installation. Borrow a pipe cutter from Autozone and follow the instructions in DIY forum for 335i exhaust. BTW, I bought mine new from a dealership back east (I'm in Seattle) with free shipping on Ebay.

Yep I already have race ramps in the garage and am 99% decided on the MPE. I get all my stuff from Sun I've never found anyone to beat their pricing.

I recently installed a cat-back resonated Supersprint exhaust on my F31 with the B46 engine. It droned for the first 100 miles but sounds great now. It even burbles on upshifts above 4000 rpm!
