Upgraded to lighter wheels and now have less traction?

I've been running BMW Style 401s (19x8, 19x8.5) with Yokohama Advan All Season tires until recently when I swapped those out for Velgen VMB5s (19x9, 19x10.5) with Continental ExtremeContact DW Summer Tires.

With style 401s, they weighed in at about 55lbs for each wheel with tire and air. The Velgens were about 36lbs with tire and air -- significantly less weight and much wider rear track. Both are around 34psi all around.

However, I've noticed the Velgen sets with summer tires having wayyy less tractions off the line. Is this because the Velgen weighs less, thus, have less rotational mass and becomes more prone to slipping off the line? Whereas the 401s were heavier, thus, harder to spin-out?

I was surprised since the reason I upgraded to the Velgens was so I would get more traction off the line with its much wider rear track and using summer tires...but that doesn't seem to be the case. :/

Wheel and tire gurus thoughts on this are much appreciated!

Ah. I should have added that the Velgen wheel set was purchased from another member so they are used but still have plenty of treads.

Temperature where I am have been hovering around 40-50F.
