I would have to agree. It was the easiest oil change I've done in a long while.

FYI...I used a BMW OE filter from the dealership and Mobil 1 0W-40 LL-01 oil from Wal-Mart.

It probably doesn't make a difference but BMW dealerships use Castrol synthetic oil,not Mobil 1.

And I also keep and file my oil and filter receipts just in case.
Where did you get a new crush washer?

It's listed in the manual. I added a quart of it when low oil warning came on over a weekend.

A new crush washer comes with the filter if you buy a genuine BMW filter from the dealer.

The jack points are where you would expect them to be, only BMW uses a funky rectangle keyed jack point so I bought one of these jack pad adapters: http://burgertuning.com/BMW_jack_pad_adapter.html

I bought a filter from BMW and it only came with O-rings.

It doesn't surprise me that it is approved. My point was that the BMW dealers only use Castrol.
As you can also see from that info,BMW only recommends Castrol for M Cars.

Interesting. I bought 3 filters and they all came with new washers... if you go up to your dealership and ask for one, I'm sure they'll give one to you.

The Castrol 0w-30 is hard to find.

This is all just entertainment, right? You guys do this despite the waste of time, money and resources because you like wrenching on your cars. All the car really needs is the maintenance that BMW provides without charge at the dealer's for four years.

^ This is, of course, subject to debate.

There are many threads on this already. There is no need to rehash the same arguments yet again nor even raise the issue.

I change in between the 15k provided changes just because I like to spend quality time with my little hotrod and an ice cold beer and feel like a man doing man things! It might very well be more for me than my 335i but hey I'm selfish like that. Will change my 335i @ 7500 when the time comes. Small cost but lots of satisfaction in my little world.

Yea, I've decided to let it be. I keep running into issues trying to get this done. I drive under 2k RPMs all day on the highway. I'll be fine.

Technically, they don't recommend Castrol outright. They recommend BMW branded LL-01 oil that is sourced from Castrol.

They use/recommend BMW/Castrol oil because they have a financial agreement with Castrol. If that financial agreement ended tomorrow and they selected Mobil as their new partner, BMW would only recommend Mobil 1.

For me, I put less stock into worrying what brand oil I put in my car and am more concerned with the frequency on which said oil is changed.
