435d - Does the engine need a running in period?

Hello, I picked up my brand new 435d GC from dealer yesterday...it only had 8 miles on the clock. I asked the dealership if the engine needed a running in period and they said no. I must admit I'm a bit old school in that I'm not so sure I agree with them. I was thinking of not topping 3000rpm for 500 miles.

I'd welcome any feedback and advice.

For those who are interested...

435d GC M Sport
Mineral grey
442 bi colour orbits
Adaptive suspension
Adaptive headlights
Head up display (very very cool BTW)
M Sport braking system
Some other stuff I can't remember 😉

Just a bit of sensible driving really.

If you keep it in say comfort, you won't hit 3k revs, well you can but probably on on the Toll road lol.

Just let the brakes and tyres bed in for a couple hundred miles.

Then just lots of various driving.

Driving an engine hard can be good for it as it beds thinges in better (various threads on this).

So get used to the car and thrn swapping between various settings for both suspension and engine (comfort, sport, sports +) when used to how it behaves, put the stick to let and give it some beans (when at operating temp).

435d = Heaven.

Even with the MPPK I sometimes still miss the grunt of my 335d.

Garage List
To add a little about running in diesel, years ago I ran an Astra 2.0 DTI from new. Picked it up with 20 miles on the clock, at 25 miles it was doing over 100mph, tried to break it for 3 years (chipped and driven like stolen) but at 120,000 miles it was taken back to the lease company!!! The only thing changed was the started motor at 80k.
Interestingly it used lots of oil at the start but at 60k stopped so I guess it took 60k to run in fully

Moved on a little now, pick up my 335D MSport in March

Lol watch the M54, there are a few unmarked cars operating on it ( I am just off the new I54 site - Jaguar engine plant).

The toll road is good but has seen lots of police - Boxing Day they had about 10 unmarked cars and 8 or so traffic cars with 2 camera vans lol.

Coming out of the toll booth needs stick to left and foot right down.

😉 cheers for the heads up. I live in Codsall, not 5 mins from you then! Yeah the 54 has always been a great speed road, you just need to keep your wits about you! Daft as it sounds I'm not so much of a speed freak anyway.....

I put a thread up on UK forum last year on decent roads for drives.

I was at Cosford (if you know what I mean).

Mine is an EBII F31, debadged, actually not many EBII around here.

Well there is another exactly same as mine but that's an unmarked car that does the toll road etc.

I agree EBII suits the F31 particularly well. Mine's a 335i, not 335d though. The pipes betray the debadged rear.

Yeah totally agree, admittedly I may be moving to a 335i.

If not will be upgrading mine (acs springs and remap)

I do prefer the twin exhaust setup, however can't have everything.

I also think the xdrive works really well with the Tourer.
