I tested A.S.S. on both 328iA and 320dA and I found it to be much smoother working in the 320d!

Quite frankly, because a lot of us HATE it, hence the name.

The ASS system is also smoother in the 6 cylinder engines and works better in the 535i.

I think A.R.S.E. would be more equivalent if someone can think up a good backronym (reverse acronym) for it

I also found that most starts and many of the stops from ASS to be just too violent; it feels like the engine is being ripped out of the mounts. That can't be good for anything (the car or me).

It got to the point that I would dread coming to a stop and trying to guess how shaky the engine stop was going to be. Then when waiting to see if the engine would randomly start by itself (due to the A/C) and how rough the start was going to be. It was ruining my driving experience.

So, I just coded it to remember the last setting and couldn't be more happy.

No more remembering to turn ASS off when I start the car, no more anxiety at stops; I'm a happy driver again!

Mine is auto disabled, so I would have to actively push a button to make it work...

So far I've had zero urge to use A.S.S. At a couple of long drive thrus I did shut my engine down manually... ASS is not my cup of tea...but one day, I will really try it!

My car is a 2012 M3, US spec. It's default setting is off (thankfully). I've read of people in other regions having to manually disable theirs everytime they start.

There is a button on the dash to enable the feature on my car.
