Around 38mpg but don't drive economically, just try to enjoy the car everytime I get in it.

My average in the 330d is currently 36 (calculated and indicated).

My average in the wife's 120d is 46 (calc'd) 48 (indicated) on pretty much all the same journeys.

We have had a 125i recently as a courtesy car for a few days, and also a 330i and a 340i (few issues with the 120d).

On my journey to work which is a mix of A roads, town, dual carriageway and motorway, in no traffic, never going over the speed limit I get (or got in the loaners):

330d - 39 mpg
120d - 49 mpg
125i - 27 mpg
330i - 26 mpg
340i - 24mpg

On a trip we have made of about 70 miles several times recently over a roads, motorway and dual carriageway, again never going above the speed limit we got:

330d - 51 mpg
120d - 63 mpg
125i - 39 mpg
330i - 36 mpg

The 330d is approx 10 mpg worse than our 120d on most journey's and I can live with that.

When I brought the 330d lots on the forum were saying "Yay I can rag it everywhere and still get 40+ mpg."

All I can say is I drive like Hoke Hunter and average 36, so you guys hooning it must be doing a lot of cruising mileage to bring the average back up!

I do fear for the petrol enthusiasts though who want a 328i, 330i or 340i and actually believe because some guy somewhere got X mpg in his petrol, and some other guy got almost the same in his diesel, that you think the running costs on fuel are going to be close!

If you want a petrol but are even slightly worried about the cost of fuel, drive both over your usual routes first!

Very good post FOAD, I think a lot of the time when people post up their mpg figures they are very selective with the journey type they use in their calcualtion.

I am certainly not expecting anymore than 25mpg out of the 340i and I suspect with my heavy right foot it may drop to the high teens

I was at times regretting ordering the 330d over a 340i (both the same price) until I drove the 125i and knew instantly that I had made the right decision.

The looks and the sound of the 340i win every time obviously but the 15 mpg difference for my type of driving and usage would have been a killer.

If I had read threads on here and believed them, you can get almost the same mpg out of a 340i now because the BMW petrol's are so efficient. Lol

Most of my miles are on the motorway and i tend to drive a bit like a granny - this does allow me to get some pretty impressive mpg out of the 330d though. Typical week of commuting will see somewhere around 49 mpg based on calculation of fuel actually used. I will more often than not see the trip computer saying 60+ mpg at the ends of my journeys, which are minimum 60 miles/c 1hr on quiet motorways (i leave early to avoid traffic). Best i've had from a tank is 57mpg based on actual fuel used. Worst mpg across a tank is mid-30s (note that i don't track the car - sure those that do will have seen lower!)

How??

Do you use eco pro?

I used eco pro to see what I would get and managed 560/70 which was 48 Mpg and that was really trying.

Mine still always goes to around 38mpg, with resetting it after every fill up, no matter if I use Tesco Diesel or Shell Vpower Nitro.

I know, who really cares.

Why bother getting a 3.0 car and go on about mpg, if it's a concern, then just get a fucking 320d or a 330e.

The 330d does between 24mpg and say 54mpg.

If you get between that great, if you get more than that hand back the car and get a 320d or Hybrid.

Agreed, my 32mpg beats what I used to get any day of the week

I've never had as much as that on any journey, and that includes driving from Somerset to Durham, purely on motorways, restricted to 50mph for appreciable lengths of the journey.

So I think that is impossible for a 330xdrive. The computer's whizzed IMO.

On a sedate motorway run recently whilst the family were asleep in the car I had 64mpg over a fair distance.

As soon as I went back no my normal driving it dropped back to about 32.

I measure fuel economy not by half an hour or so on a sedate motorway, but by the mpg over a tank of say 500 miles. I've never warmed up the engine, reset the trip and slowly cruised for a while with all the electrics off to get a good number. That's one step shy of how the vehicle manufacturers Inc VW ;-) do their emissions testing, and surely kidding ourselves lol.

But seriously, the comment I replied to was that the wife 'always' gets mid 50's in a 330xdrive. Really?

Agree, mid 40's is unrealistic let alone mid 50's! :

If you'd have quoted all of my post you'd have also seen 32mpg.

Also it wasn't half an hour it was more like 35 mintes.

Honestly she does! She has a super light foot, rarely drives and when she does it's a 20mile commute cruising around 40-45mph. Return journey not over the life of a tank.

She did the same in our old 116ed - same route mid 70's (pic below!) - I could never get near her numbers.

Sorry i should have been more specific on my comment!

I get high 40's on a run to work sites in comfort mode, and low 40's back home not hanging around in either comfort or sport. If the latter only drops mpg by 1 or 2 over comfort.

Edit - only ever run on BP Ultimate Diesel, with 1 fill up of Vpower Nitro many moons ago.
