Is Mercedes Benz stock HK sound same as our HK sound?

Maybe a stupid question, but I notice the other day, my parents have a ml350 with stock HK sound...is that the same as the HK sound that we upgrade to in our cars?

OEM HK systems are tuned differntly to particular brands and even within the same brand models.

I believe the answer is no. I have family with mbs with that system and it doesn't sound the same. Don't know enough to say which is better, but they aren't the same imo

I have the H/K sound in my 2012 W166 MB ML350 BlueTec. As in our BMW's H/K isn't standard, was part of the premium 2 pkg. I highly doubt it's the same as there's way too many varibles to compensate for between the ML suv and the F30 sedan. Drastic difference in interior volume, speaker placement/distance, etc. Then take into the different interior materials used and how the reflection off of them affects the sound.

Here's how it works: Harman/Kardon (an American audio specialist company) owns German electronics company Becker. Becker makes the audio systems in almost all German autos*. They make the cheap low end crap and the high end system in the Maybach, the quality varies by what the car companies order. They put the Harman/Kardon names on some of the premium systems, which have better-tuned amps and equalizers, and usually more speakers and other features like better Bluetooth support. Since the tuning on premium systems is done per car, and the features are custom to the auto maker's requests, no two car audio systems are really the same even though they are all Harman-Becker products.

* Even the overpriced Bose system in some Audis is made by Becker. Bose just tunes the amp.
