Does your Android work at all with iDrive?

Don't hold your breath Johnny.

Android is generally less usable with iDrive than iOS. Possibly even less usable than iOS6. Pains me to say it but there you go.

Yep, fraid this is true. I have an HTC One X and I can only view & reply to text messages via BMW integrated office app. This is inline with BMW's website. No access to email or calendar.

This irks me quite a bit, as Android is the fastest growing mobile OS, with monthly sales well ahead of iPhones. I think BMW got their brand alignment wrong here: there is far more in common between Audi & Apple than between BMW & Apple.

Guess we'll have to wait a while for Android integration to come good :-(

Surely it's to do with Android brand 'fragmentation' though. Think how many different (outdated) Android versions and handsets there are out there. Not to say the various UIs like Samsung's TouchWiz or HTC's Sense. The only 'pure' Android handsets that compare with iPhones are the Nexus devices and they sell in tiny numbers.

iPhones are much of a muchness, generally run the most up to date version of iOS and I would guess are the easiest to support. I can't blame BMW for following Apple even though it annoys me.

Yep, good point. I can't help thinking that the underlying code for handling messages is unchanged, with generally just the UI being modified by the manufacturers. I'm no coder, but given how well Android apps work across a range of recent Android devices, I can't think it's rocket science to get past Sense or TouchWiz. There are lots of developer out there who make a good living on Android apps, so they can't be writing fundamentally different versions for each current device.

Anyway, I share your annoyance ... let's hope they try for more integration soon.

The send function won't work with iPhones, you just get the message sent information but it doesn't work. You should be able to display new messages though. Make sure on your phone Bluetooth settings for the BMW device 'Show Notifications' is switched on.

It will only show new messages received whilst paired.

TBH, As long as I can receive/make calls via bluetooth connectivity then I'm happy, anything else is a bonus.

Although I agree it is handy having texts displayed on the screen, and then you try the reply option and can dictate a message which works really well and accurately, it's just frustrating that you hit send and find it doesn't work.
