Has anyone been successful in the US at getting parts or the whole seats replaced?
My replacement seat pans are on the way per BMW NA. Or I should say I think that's what's been ordered. Don't think they need to chuck the whole seat.

No, they just need to replace the frames (and remove the seat back and seat bottom, rescrew everything in).

I encourage all of you to test drive it with the SA after to rule out squeaks or loose leather, since reassembling won't be the easiest and contingent on the skill of the master tech doing the work...

That's assuming your dealer gives it to a master tech to do the work. Many will give it to a lower line tech or helper and just kinda watch over them. Most master tech's aren't interested in tedious interior trim dis-assembly/reassembly. I'd pay very close attention to the re-work. Check operation of all seat functions after work is completed and check to make sure all motors, harnesses, etc are properly re-attached. Consider taking some before and after pics. last, check for damage to other parts of your car as taking the seats in/out of a fully assembled car is not so easy.

Has anybody had the repair completed yet and can report back as to what to expect?

We also have rusty seats in China, all the models,320i 328i, both SA and DE. I heard some rusty seats have been changed by dealers, but no message shows that BMW China will recall it. What's the situation of you guys in your country? Does anyone get notice that BMW will recall it?

There will never be a recall for this. It's not a safety or regulatory compliance issue. It's purely cosmetic.

I kinda agree with BavarianFanatic.
BMW may not issue a recall just for the rusty seat frames because it's not a safety issue. (debatable though...)

But there may be a "service bulletin" sooner or later, hopefully, if many owners are reporting to BMW through dealers....

rusty seats

Spoke to my dealer and was told there will be a replacement or updated frames, which should be out around May. They told me to wait until the updated seat frames are out and they will replace them.

I don't know that I'd go that far. This isn't really time critical, so it's not like you'll miss an opportunity. No one is anywhere near the tail end of their warranty at this point. Asking for it in writing is blatantly stating that you don't trust them which, in turn, could lessen their willingness to work with you.

It's been 2 weeks and my service advisor has not heard back from BMW. I am giving it one more week and calling corporate directly.

According to BMW North America my seat frames were ordered on January 3 but I have not heard anything from my local dealer.

Mine were supposed to be here on the 12th, but alas are coming on the 19th...

UPDATE, all installed and done. Am I the first in the US?

The new frames have a really thick coat, it's interesting...

No one else had their's replaced yet? One annoying thing is I had to reset all of my seating memory positions...minor issue to have a rust free car, lol!
